Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined courted its fair share of pre-release controversy. Unlike the HD-2D remakes of the first three titles in the legendary JRPG series, which have added a considerable amount of new content without yanking out virtually anything in the process, Reimagined—true to the title on the tin—is more liberal in its approach. In Japan, the game was bound to sell well, regardless; in other territories, this might’ve harmed what would be somewhat modest sales even in the best scenario.
Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to have been the case in the United States. Or, if the rather egregious removal of original-version content did play a role, it only goes to show how well DQ7 could have done without the hampering. Circana’s February 2026 charts are out, and the radically revamped seventh major installment did pretty well, all things considered.
In a post on Twitter, leading video game industry sales analyst Mat Piscatela dove into Circana’s figures with the usual flourish.
