Xbox appears to be in utter chaos right about now. Reports are swirling, suggesting that certain Xbox-owned studios are at risk of closure if they cannot secure their independence. One of the studios rumored to be at risk is Double Fine, with some suggesting that Nintendo swoop in and pick up the Psychonauts developer.
IGN's Ryan McCaffrey is one of a few people to point out that Nintendo and Double Fine are a perfect fit. Not many platformers are as close to that unique Nintendo feel and polish as the Psychonauts games, and it really felt like Kiln might have stood a better chance of attracting a bigger audience had it launched on Nintendo Switch.
Double Fine's pottery brawler has struggled to attract an audience and currently has just 13 players on Steam, less than two months after it launched.
If Double Fine really is on the Xbox chopping block, which continues to seem more and more likely, it's unclear if, like Toys for Bob, it can afford to buy back its independence. That's why the suggestion that Nintendo might want to swoop in and save the day is being made on social media. Unfortunately, it's unlikely that's something...
