Beamdog Was Going To Pitch Its Own Baldur's Gate 3 With Dragon Age's Lead Writer Attached, But Larian Beat Them To It

Baldur's Gate fans were left waiting years for a sequel. The first two games launched in 1998 and 2000 respectively, and were made by BioWare, long before it would be best known for Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

When the studio moved on with other IPs, the future of Baldur's Gate was left uncertain. Different developers would pitch their own Baldur's Gate 3s over the years, but Wizards of the Coast didn't bite for years. Now, it turns out that one of these pitches came from Beamdog and would have seen some BioWare veterans return to the series.

As reported by PC Gamer, BioWare co-founder Trent Oster was trying to get Baldur's Gate 3 off the ground for years, but says he couldn't secure the funding for it. This was after Oster had left BioWare to found Beamdog, the studio that re-released the classic games as the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Editions with new content, and even gave us an expansion for the first game.
