Veteran Sega Producer Wants To Make Every Game The Studio Has Ever Made "Fully Playable"

While there's still a very real risk that some video games have been lost to time, and others remain unplayable, there's a more concerted effort now than ever by developers to try and make sure as many old games as possible are playable on modern platforms. None have attempted to undertake quite as big a task as Yosuke Okunari, however, whose goal is to make every Sega game ever available and playable on modern platforms.

Okunari was one of 52 Japanese game devs who spoke with Famitsu for a bumper feature on the current state of the gaming industry and their evolving place within it. Okunari, who has been at Sega since 1994, detailed the massive project he's been working on, revealing that he has been cataloging everything Sega has ever made, both hardware and software, to create one giant library.

"For the past few years, I've been working on creating an in-house game database," Okunari explained. "I still have a long way to go to complete it, but a search of the current version reveals that, excluding ports and remakes, there are about 2,800 Sega game titles. Including all of them, there are about 4,500 titles."
