Resident Evil Requiem is the fastest-selling game in the entire franchise. It sold seven million units in under two months. Crimson Desert, one of the year's most hotly anticipated titles, has sold a very impressive six million units in less than three months, which, given that it's a brand-new IP, is good going.

For as much historical relevance in gaming as you might have, and all your marketing spend, there is nothing more powerful than word of mouth and the internet, which one new viral indie sensation has just found out.

Meccha Chameleon, a game developed in two months by just two people, has now outpaced all of 2026's behemoth titles, selling seven million copies in just 12 days.

Most developers can only dream of their game selling seven million copies. For context, games like Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 failed to hit that number, despite being on the market much longer.
