According to Christopher Dring of The Game Business, the PlayStation 5 accounts for 70- 80 per cent of most triple-A single-player console sales at launch.
In other words, if a new triple-A multiplatform release sold 1 million copies, the Xbox Series X/S would only be responsible for between 200,000 and 300,000 of these sales.
"A new AAA single-player game on console tends to do about 75%-80% of its sales (at launch) on PlayStation vs Xbox. That number is often lower when it comes to online multiplayer games," writes Dring.
Though hardware sales of the PlayStation 5 versus Xbox Series X/S have made it very clear that Sony has dominated the current console generation, hearing just how poorly software is going for Xbox is still surprising.
