Pokémon get redesigned all the time, from the icons of the series to the more obscure Pokédex entries. However, while it may be a somewhat common occurrence, the act of drastically altering a Pokémon's appearance never fails to surprise, especially when The Pokémon Company alters it in novel and dramatic ways. This is especially true for those aforementioned icons, whose designs are so ingrained in the pop culture zeitgeist, that a slight tweak can cause division in the fandom.
Such is the case with a rather significant alteration to Pikachu's core design, one that completely changes the Pokémon's look from a cute adorable electric mouse to something a tad more sinister. While some fans may delight in seeing Pikachu changed so much, others may call for its iconic look to return. Fortunately, both can rest easy, as the design, while certainly impressive, is only a temporary change, at least for now, anyway.
