Disco Elysium is a landmark title in gaming that will hopefully set a new standard for quality game design and writing. Everything offered within feels like a work borne from passion and talent, but that latter part’s what has me worried. I would love for Disco Elysium to somehow plant a flag that boldly proclaims, “Here! THIS is what we need to be doing and THIS is how you do it!” Even if a developer understands the “passion” part of the equation and puts in the time and resources, that doesn’t always mean they have a talent for this caliber of game. This review’s already gone on far too long, but I have to convey the affection I have for the central protagonist and his companion — their chemistry. Despite how much of a screw-up he is, I still love him for all his quirks and failings. And I made him that. Perhaps he’s a reflection of myself in some way since I have finally, for the first time ever, been given the true freedom to create the protagonist I want and not some flawless, altruistic knight who’s come to save the day.

New Pokémon Snap is the perfect blend of nostalgic and modern, accommodating for the fact that Pokémon is so much more now than what it was over 20 years ago. Just as the series has developed a life all its own, New Pokémon Snap gives the Pokémon, region, and cast the polish they need to truly shine. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and New Pokémon Snap proves it, as it captures everything there is to love about Pokémon into one package.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is Fire Emblem at the top of its game. Only a few games in my life have ruined my sleep schedule like Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Getting back home late after work, playing until I saw the sun rise, agonizing over in-game decisions, laughing and crying alongside the cast… this is what it means to truly fall in love with a game. Three Houses should be a part of any Switch owner’s library at some point. It has pretty much everything you could possibly want in a video game: good graphics, great music, an epic story and, of course, top-notch gameplay. Fire Emblem has a new, higher bar moving forward, and hopefully we’ll see this effort replicated for future titles.

The Tactics Ogre series has been dormant for a long time, but if this remaster is anything to go by, Square Enix still has total confidence in their IP. I cannot hesitate to recommend this game to fans of SRPGs, and it's accessible enough for newcomers to dive right in.

Despite the cartography being less enjoyable than on DS, this remaster is still the best way to experience once of the best Etrian Odyssey games...as long as you play in handheld mode!

It's like a D&D campaign with a DM who has a funky imagination and still manages to make you think, laugh and cry all at the same time, and it's utterly unforgettable in all the best ways.

With a team consisting of Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yuji Horii, of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest fame respectively, perhaps it was no huge surprise that I’d end up enjoying Chrono Trigger. Given my appreciation and fondness for those series, I enjoyed what they created, even if it did take me a little longer to give the title a chance than most. It is obvious that a lot of care and effort was put forth by the entire accomplished development team, and that stemmed into quite a few fun hours of gameplay for me. Chrono Trigger is one of those rare titles that indeed lives up to its storied reputation, and I can certainly see why it is considered a timeless classic RPG. I can’t thank everyone who has recommended and hyped Chrono Trigger to me enough, as I found that it is a journey through time well worth taking for RPG enthusiasts!
