For all the savvy tweaks to combat and exploration, Shadow of the Tomb Raider unfortunately feels like an extremely long expansion pack, now with killer fish and face mud.

The story never finds its footing, its characters never feel fully realised, and as a game, all you're left with are tiresome quick time events and awkward controls, through linear corridors with tedious puzzles.

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition lives up to its name: it's the best version of this game, and this game is also the best in the Warriors series.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, within the first couple of hours, contains the phrase "Cannon-fucking your boat to sodden splinters." Pirates might not make everything better – you wouldn't invite them to a booze-free wedding – but they've done wonders in Obsidian's RPG sequel.
