Nintendo Blast's Reviews

The Crimson Flower that Divides: Lunar Coupling is an otome visual novel that's worth it for the genre fans but the English translation is lacking. The social and political context of the plot is enticing and brings up relevant discussions on power and sexism that stand out from any apparent romanticization of affect in a morally questionable context. We hope HuneX can fix these issues and work for the next games to have more care in translation quality as this is an essential element of the genre.

7.5 / 10.0 - OddBallers
Feb 8, 2023

Despite the empty servers and some graphical issues, OddBallers was a game that captivated me with its charisma. With a unique visual style and creative possibilities in the matches, this launch deserves a chance especially if you're a fan of party games and wants to challenge your friends. Overall, here's a title with the potential to offer very fun and competitive matches just like real dodgeball matches with your friends.

Fire Emblem Engage is, without a doubt, the perfect entry for players who want to discover all the strategic potential that the franchise has to offer. The already established concepts of the series are even better with the exclusive systems of the 17th entry, making even veterans need to take a little time to study what the new mechanics add to the experience. It is true that, in terms of narrative and social interactions, Engage may fall short for some, even more so after the experience provided by Three Houses. In general, this new Fire Emblem manages to be an innovative game, but that does not give up its roots at any time.

Many years after its original release, Persona 3 Portable is still a respectable JRPG, fully capable of immersing the player in its long, deliciously dark and thought-provoking plot. Not even its repetitive character or the omission of the improvements brought by Persona 3 FES are enough to dim the brilliance of this game that finds a home on the Switch as welcoming and natural as the PSP once was. Freed from exclusivity, it's time to discover or revisit one of Atlus' most important classics, and with its flexibility, Nintendo's console is the most appropriate way to do so. Recommended.

9 / 10.0 - Persona 4 Golden
Feb 4, 2023

Persona 4 Golden is an important and precious exponent of the history of Japanese RPGs and is finally available for Nintendo Switch in a big way. If you like the genre, or simply a good story, clever mechanics and a huge amount of content, don't waste time adding this classic to your hybrid console library.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is the Bikini Bottom gang's first original platform game in nearly eight years. So much time away from the genre could have thrown the franchise even deeper into the world of middling licensed games. Fortunately, this was not the path taken by the Purple Lamp studio. Although it has problems with the structure of its levels, the game has controls, challenges and gameplay progression that satisfy anyone looking for a fun game to play without compromise. Anyone who grew up with SpongeBob titles in the 2000s will feel right at home with this cosmic jolt.

A Space for the Unbound brings, with great charm and subtlety, an exciting story about the transition from youth to adulthood, traumas, personal desires and the consequences of intervening in the lives of the people around us, all with a touch of fantastic literature. Despite having some drawbacks, the game seduces with a well-crafted plot and a fantastic and immersive audiovisual presentation, making it an instant recommendation for fans of the adventure genre.

7.5 / 10.0 - RE:CALL
Jan 25, 2023

RE:CALL is a pleasant adventure game that plays with the concept of [altering] reality through memories. The experience is easily recommendable to those who like he genre, though the small issues stop the title from becoming something even more memorable to all sorts of players.

Burrow of the Fallen Bear - A Gay Furry Visual Novel tried to offer a romantic story within the furry theme. However, the end result is a very basic story that's totally left aside for the sake of the characters' erotic relationships. The presence of some dialogue options like puzzles don't recreate the concept of challenge and end up more frustrating than immersive. What keeps the game from failing is the soundtrack adequate to the game's most important scenes and its Brazilian Portuguese localization that allows certain dialogues to cause more impact.

Portal: Companion Collection brings a good amount of content and compiles two of the most remarkable puzzle games ever made, most notably Portal 2, which has perhaps the most creative, ingenious and well-written design Valve has ever produced. This collection is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys comic science fiction and is a must for puzzle fans.

Though it has some very specific issues, Shieldmaiden: Remix Edition adds a quality short adventure to Switch's library, with a big highlight to it being a 100% Brazilian product. With interesting mechanics, big inspiration on classic 16-bit platformers and irreproachable audiovisual presentation, this one is a good choice for indie titles enthusiasts.

8.5 / 10.0 - Togges
Jan 13, 2023

I admit that I didn't expect anything from Togges when I started playing it, but it didn't take long for me to become addicted to exploring every corner of this world created with such attention to detail. Giving a true lesson in level design and exploration, the adventure brings a refreshing perspective that made me rethink the 3D platformer genre as a whole.

Despite having well-adapted controls, well-modeled scenarios, an interesting plot and incredibly accurate sound effects, Jurassic World Aftermath Collection repeats its structure of hiding and solving repeated puzzles a lot, becoming, after a while, unfortunately, a very more tiring than fun.

8 / 10.0 - ORD.
Jan 6, 2023

With its minimalist proposal, Ord. manages to establish its existence in the Switch library as a relaxed, thought-provoking game and, above all, aimed at the unpretentious and casual pastime. Despite some small flaws, if tried in homeopathic doses, this textual adventure is more than recommended for those moments when we lack something to do.

8.5 / 10.0 - Sail Forth
Jan 5, 2023

Even with a repetitive progression, Sail Forth is a good choice for anyone who enjoys exploration games. This occurs insofar as navigating the Deep Blue is an extremely relaxing task, yielding incredible moments in the face of new ambiences and unique characters. By the way, feats that are amplified in the face of the grandeur of the seas of adventure and the grace of the wind that hits the face of the brave Captain Tuto.

8 / 10.0 - Melatonin
Jan 5, 2023

Despite its narrative and audiovisual simplicity, as well as the little content, Melatonin has a well polished and consistent design. There are interesting psychological and social themes subtly brought up, comfortable audiovisual [elements] and a style that combines a dream ambientation and a creative gameplay that's at the same time intuitive and reasonably challenging when it focuses on the rhythmic aspect of the tracks more than their melodic parts. This title is recommended to people who like casual concepts in general, as well as rhythm game fans interested in unconventional mechanics.

8 / 10.0 - McPixel 3
Jan 4, 2023

McPixel 3 is a game that seems to give voice and presence to its creator's insanity. Because it is very focused on an overly snarky type of humor, it is not a type of game that is easily recommended for all players, but those who like humorous point-and-clicks will probably enjoy it a lot.

10 / 10.0 - Papetura
Jan 3, 2023

The word that defines Papetura for me is experience. The images are stunning, the story unfolds in an extremely inviting way, and knowing that so much of it is handcrafted from paper just made my jaw drop. Looking forward to the next work of art by Tomasz Ostafin and his studio Petums.

10 / 10.0 - Chained Echoes
Jan 2, 2023

Even if inspired by classic franchises, Chained Echoes delivers what it proposes and even more: I'd dare say future games will be inspired by it. That's the case because its story and soundtrack wipe the floor with [what] many renowned games [have to offer], not to mention its multiple combat styles. The Overdrive and Overheat gauges are a smart choice to make battles dynamic and fun. Extra content also helps, being inserted in the right measure. Actually, is there anything in Chained Echoes that isn't perfect?

PetitFabrik's Amazonian creators did a good job with Kukoos: Lost Pets, delivering beautiful and pleasant visuals, charismatic characters and varied gameplay mechanics in an attractive 3D world. Even with small issues, it's a beautiful addition to the studio's portfolio, and it's worth checking this Brazilian title out.
