Nintendo Blast's Reviews

Little Goody Two Shoes isn't only charming for its aesthetic beauty but also positions itself as a challenging and compelling game, offering a rich experience in both narrative and gameplay. With very few caveats, there's no doubt that this game stands out as one of the most incredible representatives of its genre.

9 / 10.0 - Thirsty Suitors
Nov 14, 2023

Thirsty Suitors is a pot full of ideas which altogether manage to represent Jala's life experience. With vibrant characters and a well handled story, the title is much more than the sum of its parts. It's a celebration of life, all its failings and new starts.

7.5 / 10.0 - World of Horror
Nov 9, 2023

World of Horror manages to replicate the same effect of Lovecraft's works, in its own way, even if doing so doesn't always bring the result we want. However, apart from its setting and artistic choice, the game, in relation to its plot and combat system, ends up giving the impression that it would be more impressive if it were more complex. This doesn't mean that I don't recommend the game, but it's important to remember that it's a relatively simple product, designed as a casual pastime rather than a more complex linear story with major investigations.

7 / 10.0 - Fashion Dreamer
Nov 9, 2023

Fashion Dreamer is a fashion game with many options for customizing characters and clothes, but exploration quickly becomes repetitive. Especially for those who have played the developer's previous works, it doesn't take long to wish the title had other content to break up the monotony.

Virche Evermore -ErroR: Salvation- presents itself as another great pick among the English-released otome games on Switch. With a darker perspective than usual, the title interestingly discusses the sensible theme of death in a society full of issues. The result is compelling and an easy recommendation for fans of visual novels in general.

In the end, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 is, indeed, recommendable but with some caveats. If you're looking for a revival or first time to play these seminal classics, who are predecessors to the cinematographic adventures that are so common now in the game industry, this collection will give you that. However, it leaves an expectation that a future Volume 2 will get more attention; new and old fans will definitely appreciate.

9 / 10.0 - Dave the Diver
Nov 6, 2023

Dave the Diver is a big surprise and a beautiful labor of love. The developers spent a lot of time trying to balance all the gameplay elements present in Diver Dave's adventure and they were clearly very successful in this attempt. Appreciators of a good video game will quickly realize that something special has been achieved here. This is one of the best titles of 2023 and an unmissable addition to your library of gems on Nintendo Switch.

In Just Dance 2024 Edition, we find what the fans expect from the annual releases of the franchise: a varied choice of recent songs, good choreography, and the introduction of new features. The issue is that many of the old issues are still present in the series, such as slow menus, crashes, and the dependency on online connection for many actions. For that reason, it's recommendable to check out the new release's soundtrack before buying this ticket for the big annual party.

Song of Nunu is a game that everyone can enjoy, whether you've played League of Legends or not, meaning you don't need to have any knowledge of Runeterra. Song of Nunu is enough on its own, and I dare say that this is the best game in this universe to date. As not every game is perfect, there are points that could be better elaborated, but they are very small compared to the incredible adventure we experienced alongside Nunu and Willump. As a certain snowman would say, Song of Nunu is a warm hug for everyone who passes by.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder combines the style of the series' 2D titles and mixes it with the creativity and ambition of 3D games. The result of this recipe could not be different: the adventure is complete fun from beginning to end. Just as Super Mario World impacted generations, Wonder has the potential to be viewed decades from now with the same appreciation.

Jackbox Party Pack 10 keeps the series' flame burning with another collection of games perfect for that weekend getaway at your friends' house. How much you and your friends will enjoy the package depends on your tastes, of course, but I would venture to say that it is very difficult not to have at least one microgame with the perfect ingredients for a mountain of laughter and inside jokes that will be generated.

My Time at Sandrock smartly mixes simulation and RPG elements, creating a captivating and enticing world to explore and get to know in detail. Though the combat system isn't as pleasant as the others, it doesn't hinder the experience as a whole. Besides that, the crafting mechanic is very rich, prompting the player to enter a fun loop of exploration, gathering, creation and upgrade, which can definitely be worth hours of gameplay. Unfortunately, this ocean of content can't be properly explored on Switch due to severe performance issues, leaving us expecting future updates already promised by the developers to solve the issue.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R manages to fulfill its role of revitalizing a classic and re-presenting it in a way suitable for the new generation. More than the new aesthetic that plays with 2D and 3D, its main advantage lies in its quality of life features that make the game a much more pleasant experience.

Archetype Arcadia presents a curious world but doesn't escape the feeling of generic, artificial narrative. The result is worth it for those who love the genre and feel the premise is interesting, but it doesn't offer anything of highlight beyond that.

Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition successfully joins the list of improbable - but very welcome - adaptations to the Nintendo console. Even with the inevitable graphic downgrade, all the chaos and insanity of the 2K series are still present and addicting in this version, proving that among weapons, psychopaths and dubious jokes, the worst sin is not to get in. Recommended!

Even if Tempest: Dawning Connections is a visual novel that reinforces the high quality of its predecessor, giving fans extra time to enjoy the character relationships. Though it's a title worth playing only for those who already enjoyed the original, the character writing quality makes it an excellent recommendation for fans of the genre.

7.5 / 10.0 - Sonic Superstars
Oct 27, 2023

Sonic Superstars is a good recreation of the adventure of the classic Mega Drive games and is best enjoyed when treated like one of them: playing solo through the main campaign. Some innovations are welcome, like the Emerald Powers, but others, like the focus on multiplayer, don't make the game shine. Overall, the title has a certain lack of polish that doesn't make it excellent, but it doesn't stop it from being good fun for fans of classic Sonic.

6.5 / 10.0 - CRYMACHINA
Oct 25, 2023

Crymachina stays on the fence in many aspects, but it doesn't manage to be as bad as it seems, as long as the player keeps in mind its weak points. However, it's a mistake to regard it as a spiritual successor to Crystar, especially when it comes to battles, narrative and ambientation, but these latter two aspects, which carry the concept of the game, manage to sustain the arduous (and unbalanced) task to explore the diverse sections of the Eden spaceship.

8.5 / 10.0 - Hana Awase New Moon
Oct 25, 2023

Hana Awase New Moon is an unexpectedly addictive mix of otome and card game thought up to reward the effort of those who want to play with its systems. Despite a few issues with the translation that would be worth fixing, the compelling and poetic plot exploring the characters' personality nuances offers an experience easy to recommend for fans of visual novels.

Front Mission 2 Remake is a good opportunity to get to know the second title in Square Enix's strategy RPG franchise[, a game] that was never released in the West. Unfortunately, like its predecessor, the gameplay has many quality of life issues that should have been urgently fixed to make the experience more accessible and pleasant. What we have once again is a re-release excessively attached to fidelity without noticing some serious and evident issues that should have been addressed to make the experience modern without losing the game's essence. This is a classic and interesting title back in the scene, but it feels like it could have been more.
