Gray Dawn has great potential, but it fell flat in many aspects, ranging from overused horror tropes to undercutting loading times but loading textures as you play. Calling it rough around the edges is an understatement because it doesn’t seem like it got the work needed to shine, and it can come across as a little underbaked. If you can look past all the flaws, it has a somewhat interesting story, and the lore used gives the story a bit more depth, even if it is a little far-fetched.
The new rogue-like gameplay of God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla took a little time to get used to. But after getting used to it, it’s no question that it incredibly adds much more to the DLC, let alone the combat, and overall, an enthralling replayable experience in Valhalla, and would welcome this new type of gameplay in future God of War projects. To top it all off, again, it must be said the DLC is totally free. This is a DLC you’d be happy to pay for, but you don’t need to. Imagine something this great doesn’t require you to reach for your credit card.
The Iron Oath is a good game and a great entry into the turn-based strategy genre. Despite the need to manage resources such as mercenaries and funds, the game never becomes too overwhelming, even with more intense difficulties. Though admittedly, it still suffers from some of the faults of its inspirations, it still builds upon the mechanics. The game is easy to get into and hard to put down, and while it’s no Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s certainly worth your time.
While not the most groundbreaking simulator on the market, Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master is a game that delivers abundant laughs and suspense! The game’s tiny Easter eggs rooted in modern pop culture and its comedic characters effortlessly take center stage. Simultaneously, the game maintains a commendable level of seriousness and challenge, striking a satisfying balance that will keep veteran players and newcomers alike captivated.
Arizona Sunshine 2 is a great VR zombie shooter for those wanting an introduction to virtual zombie killing. There is plenty to do throughout the game when it comes to exploring. A mindful player can have a surplus of ammo, given the proper situations and how they are handled. Weapons come in enough variety that multiple combinations can be tested. Dual-wielding is probably the coolest part of the weapons system.
Working as one of the best recreations of movie IPs of all time, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora reaches the heights and callbacks from some of the most memorable scenes from the series. Long gone are the days of cheap tie-in movies for a cash grab. Ubisoft has proven with this entry that a new form of video game world inspired by blockbuster intellectual property can exist.
Despite Gangs of Sherwood’s shortcomings, the multiplayer mode is enjoyable, the puppet narration is entertaining, and the combat is top-notch. It may be too difficult to achieve high-style grades while on your own. This could be a great addition to your library if you enjoy updating the Robin Hood mythos and enjoy fast-paced cooperative games. The fast-paced gameplay, varied character powers, and the possibility of spectacular multiplayer cooperation make this game worth watching.
Born of Bread is clearly a game made with passion that includes many stories to unwrap and silly business along with it. The charm that the game gives is utterly important, and while trying to defeat the villains, you understand that characters aren’t just characters. They feel like important beings rather than just 2D images. Well, maybe, except for our protagonist, he’s just bread. Sorry for the lack of bread puns, but maybe playing Born of Bread will inspire you to come up with your own- and, yes, you will also have a great time experiencing it.
LEGO Bricktales VR is an exciting sandbox game. It is not a lengthy game and can be completed in a single afternoon, provided someone has that amount of free time. It is a great introduction to the toys for those unfamiliar with the Lego brand or who’ve never used them. It feels like a softer introduction than something that uses an IP like something from J.R.R. Tolkien’s or George Lucas’s minds.
Moira’s adventure can parallel many people’s experiences as teenagers, living that eternally rebellious angst and not knowing what to do about their future. Embracing its cultural inspirations and creating a heartfelt rendition of the Scottish Highlands and everything they represent, A Highland Song is a beautiful reminder that nature is the best teacher.
Invincible Presents: Atom Eve is a game that doesn’t make sense in terms of marketing but is completely forgettable as a game. There is nothing inherently wrong with the game besides some boring dialogue, but nothing about Invincible Presents: Atom Eve stands as something that will be remembered unless the team behind the game takes what they have here and builds upon it, which is a possibility.
Heads Up! Phones Down Edition had all the potential to be the next big thing in party games. The mobile version meant, going into the game, most knew roughly what they were getting. Unfortunately, they knew exactly what they were getting as this was just a port with a $40 price tag slapped on the front.
Orten Was The Case is a highly well-thought title with lots of never-seen artistic choices. It is undoubtedly one of the indie games of the year that leans to the better side with its visual representation, sound quality, impressive puzzles, and take on the time loop style of gameplay. If you consider yourself a veteran of ’90s story-ridden puzzle games, you could easily eat up Orten Was The Case, but if you are curious to check out the game, approach it with a pinch of salt.
Last Train Home is great for those who want to maliciously plan everything else and manage a spreadsheet of resources and logistics. Things will be taken slowly, almost at a snail’s pace, to avoid roadblocks. Those who want to rush into action will likely quickly kill the entire Czechoslovakian Legion. This can easily accumulate with loading back dozens of hours if you can even figure out which save file that was.
Steamworld Build has reasonable, average length load times when first starting up. It is impressive that it is seamless to switch between map times with no slowdown or bugs. However, outright crashing is still possible. This tends to happen when first opening a map or exiting back to the main menu. SteamWorld Build is a great sequel for those who liked the previous games in the series.
Despite the few glaring issues, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) surpasses Modern Warfare II in every possible way. This is Sledgehammer’s redemption arc for the multiplayer of their last game, Call of Duty: Vanguard, which had plenty to be desired. Clearly, going old school with the maps was the juice needed to finally replenish the franchise. Additionally, as the gameplay and content are much more exciting, immersive, and engaging, this feels like the traditional Call of Duty we all know and love. So, is Call of Duty back? You bet it is. Great job, Sledgehammer.
Playing dress up is always entertaining, especially with this many options. There is a clear area of opportunity for this type of cozy game that, with a bit more polish and focus, can truly shine. Fashion Dreamer is a step in the right direction for its target audience with its seemingly endless wardrobe choices, but the lack of any meaningful story content can make the game feel pointless. With the promise of updates and special events on the horizon, here’s hoping it can become a high-fashion game for the ages.
Along with a whole new section of gameplay that will add variety and interest to the overall experience, the story is in keeping with the rest of the content in Remnant II. The visuals keep to the same stunning standard as the rest of the game and add the necessary flare to keep players interested. Gunfire Game had a winner on their hands with Remnant II and used Remnant 2 – The Awakened King to continue to grow the amazing world they have created.
Super Crazy Rhythm Castle is a fun rhythm game with solid challenges and epic music to keep you wanting more, though it should come with the warning that the songs will get stuck in your head. This is because they are fun and really well composed; this goes alongside the characters and world-building, which keeps the fun going through exploration and the experience in general.
Worldless has a great premise and presentation. But it's clear that it's a console-first game and that putting it on a PC is an afterthought. If you enjoy the exploration aspects of Metroid and Castlevania games, you will find a lot to enjoy. However, several combat balances need to be implemented, including an easy skill refund, additional skill points, and a design native to the PC platform.
