Let's School is an incredibly sophisticated building simulator that will captivate every player. It offers endless possibilities for building your own school, managing the moods of students and staff, and taking on a managerial role within the game. Yes, there are a few inconsistencies here and there, and you’ll find the occasional bug, but not even earthquakes and fires could dampen my desire to take good care of the school. Proforovská thus becomes one of the best educational institutions in the world, and I highly recommend you build your own.

SCP: Secret Files turned out to be a pleasant surprise that hinted at the potential for adapting the entire SCP project. Although the gameplay isn’t particularly complex or original—and you can complete each segment in under an hour—the developers have taken a step in the right direction, and each story offers enough creativity to captivate players and leave a lasting impression. For fans of the SCP Foundation, it’s practically a must-play; for others, it can serve as a good introduction to this universe. The only potential downside is the very short overall playtime, and the planned expansions are currently uncertain.

Alone in the Dark is the pioneer of the survival horror genre and, for many gamers who grew up in the ’90s, it’s a real treat for the soul. Any fan of the Resident Evil or Silent Hill series shouldn’t miss this first installment. If you’re an older gamer, I’m sure you’ll enjoy reminiscing—just like I do—about how this game terrified you not with the number of enemies or frantic action, but rather with its intense atmosphere. In this game, you actually had to think your way through to avoid getting stuck. For today’s players, it’s more of a relic of its time. If you’ve beaten the game, it’s clear that you’re among the genre’s veterans or connoisseurs.

Impaler is a totally addictive retro shooter that subtly pushes you to be the best and constantly try new tactics. I have to admit, it’s a lot of fun to watch the monsters slowly slide down the spikes after being impaled or fly through the air after a barrel explodes (unless, of course, they’ve been blown to bits). The game has a super simple concept that’s just plain fun. Plus, it’s a lot of fun for just a few bucks—you can get the game for less than three euros, and it’s definitely worth it. I definitely recommend giving it a try.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is fantastic. Ubisoft is slowly repairing its tarnished reputation, and if we’re lucky, we might see not only a remake of Sands of Time but also another story set in this world. It might not even matter whether it features Sargon or Dastan. You’ll find very accessible gameplay, great voice acting, a compelling story, beautifully designed enemies, and a high-quality combat system. The game boasts so many strengths that the near-impossibility of playing with a keyboard and, unfortunately, occasional progression bugs could even be overlooked.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, like its predecessor, is a well-crafted game that fits perfectly into the Deus Ex series. The game combines FPS, RPG, stealth, and action elements, and the freedom to choose how you play it keeps things entertaining. Compared to Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, however, there’s a noticeable lack of freedom and a more limited scope, as evidenced by the presence of only two different endings and the fact that you face only one final boss.

Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic invites us on a historical journey through magical eras, featuring enhanced visuals and the ability to create your own world using a creative editor. Although the game offers engaging moments, minor glitches are an eyesore and turn what should be a relaxing experience into moments that can sometimes be frustrating. Despite these challenges, the sequel to Hidden Through Time remains an interesting title for those who want to push the boundaries of their logical thinking—and perhaps have a little fun along the way.

It’s hard to evaluate Hero’s Hour as a standalone title; its acknowledged inspiration from Heroes of Might and Magic is obvious from a mile away. The easy difficulty and fast pace appeal to casual gamers, while the references to the old-school classic are more likely to resonate with an older generation of players who gained their first gaming experiences around the turn of the century. If you’re feeling nostalgic, miss Heroes, but don’t have much time or strong nerves, you definitely won’t go wrong with this one.

The Troop is a well-crafted turn-based strategy game set on a hex grid, whose gameplay—and especially its artificial intelligence—takes you back to the golden age of challenging strategy games. This game won’t give you anything for free; the AI will try to trap you in crossfire, wear you down, and maneuver you where it needs you to go. It won’t take unnecessary risks, and it can really give you a run for your money.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is a great strategy game with a perfect story. Unfortunately, the game offers absolutely no added value, and if you’ve played something similar before, you won’t feel like playing it again. I’d simply say that the game is a well-made case of déjà vu, with all the trimmings. Personally, I’m disappointed because I expected more for the money. However, if this is your first time playing a game in this genre, you’ll be thrilled and will be looking for something else to play next.

Gangs of Sherwood is a slightly above-average game whose biggest problem is that you don’t really learn anything from the story, but you have to play it anyway. The game isn’t bad—not at all. Is it a disappointment? Yes, it had so much more potential. As I said at the beginning, two months after launch, the developers are working to fine-tune and improve it. In my opinion, they’re succeeding. It’ll never be the kind of title that could shoot to the top of the best games list. But if you want to hang out with three friends, listen to some great one-liners, beat up the Sheriff of Nottingham’s henchmen, and destroy giant cannons, we’ve found the perfect game for you.

Wingspan is a fairly faithful video game adaptation of the board game of the same name, which was released in Czech as Na křídlech. The game features a great tutorial, unobtrusive background music, and beautiful visuals. Unfortunately, at least for me, it’s let down by the layout of the game board—where you can only see one biome at a time—the somewhat clunky controls, the AI opponents’ difficulty being too easy, and the potential for long downtime when playing with real opponents. If you’re a Wingspan fan, this video game adaptation will keep you thoroughly entertained. If you don’t like Wingspan, this won’t change your mind, although personally, I enjoy the AI mode more than playing the board game Wingspan with friends.

Compared to other virtual reality rail shooters, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR stands out for its solid production values and, to some extent, serves to showcase the strengths of the PS VR2 platform. However, in terms of gameplay, it falls somewhere in the middle. The game can therefore be recommended primarily to fans of the genre whose appetite for digital shooting outweighs their disappointment with its minor shortcomings.

Immediately after its release in 2020, Hades caused quite a stir and was a hit with both critics and players. And rightly so. If you’ve fallen in love with the rogue-lite genre, there’s basically no reason to play anything else. Hades has left all its competitors far behind and leads the pack with its gameplay, strong story, likable characters, and pleasantly high difficulty—one that’s challenging without being frustrating.

The remastered Quake II is the best possible version of this game, which stands as one of the cornerstones of the modern first-person shooter genre. It’s a must-play for both newcomers—who weren’t even born when the original game was released—and gaming veterans alike. Thanks to thoughtful improvements to the audiovisual presentation and gameplay, as well as added content, they’re in for a slightly different experience.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will likely get lost very quickly in the flood of other, much better games that will at least try to win over players in some way. If you weren’t impressed by the content of Starfield, for example—which many players also criticize for its merely average story—then Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will likely be an even greater ordeal for you, as it was for me. The game didn’t impress me at all, and it’s exactly the kind of game I’ll play once and never again. Six out of ten.

We waited three years for Farming Simulator 22, only to be greeted by a winter season that was promising but underdeveloped, along with a host of outdated systems that the developers haven’t touched in years. The game’s saving graces are its more attractive machine models and animations, a vast array of options, and—most importantly—endgame content in the form of production chains, which are the main reason fans of the genre should pick up this new installment. Despite its shortcomings, players can easily spend hundreds of blissful hours playing it. Simply put, there’s still plenty to tweak, and the developers should take into account what players actually want.

If you’ve ever played Return of Obra Dinn, like I have, you’re sure to enjoy this game as well. You’ll put your detective skills to the test as you search for even the tiniest clues and uncover various connections between characters. It’s just plain fun to put your brain to work. The developers at Color Grey Games have done a really good job. The Case of the Golden Idol is an interesting and entertaining game with a surprising story, which I definitely recommend to fans of the detective genre.

Spells & Secrets offers a magical world full of action, spells, and challenges. With an endless castle maze and procedurally generated challenges, players will enjoy a classic roguelike experience set within a wizard academy. Unfortunately, the game suffers from a lack of variety and depth in its story. Local co-op and pleasant visuals add to the fun, but repetitive environments and other minor issues can detract from the game’s overall impression and potential.

Thief Simulator 2 is a great example of how creating a sequel to a simulator can pay off—but only if you know how to do it right. Although the change in developer might have seemed like a bad decision, it certainly wasn’t. It’s clear that the developers took great care with the final product. They’ve introduced a lot of new content, so players can spend several more hours robbing houses with a bit of adrenaline pumping through their veins.
