Tom's Hardware Italia's Reviews

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a chance to rediscover, or play for the umpteenth time, one of the best JRPGs from the golden age of PlayStation. Majestic in its art direction and music, and with one of the most elaborate and intriguing stories ever seen, there are very few criticisms that can be made of the original game, and in general the biggest "flaw" that can be attributed to it is that it wasn't the disruptive masterpiece that its predecessor was. In fact, the inclusion of Chrono Trigger (even at a higher price) would have made the compilation a must-have, too bad. The refinements that Square Enix has made for this remaster may not be optimal for an ideal visual performance, but they are accompanied by a series of substantial additions that, against a budget price of € 19.99, make the package definitely worth buying and recommended for any lover of the genre.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is without a doubt the most ambitious and huge LEGO title ever made by TT Games, a real act of love for those who love the popular Danish bricks and the whole Star Wars movie franchise. Its accessibility, without ever taking itself too seriously, makes it a videogame for everyone, capable of entertaining from the smallest audience to the most adult, confirming an experience for all ages and satisfying for everyone. Warner Bros. has therefore hit the nail on the head, giving us an adventure that is certainly one of the best of this 2022 in terms of quality and content.

8.5 / 10.0 - Moss: Book II
Apr 4, 2022

Moss: Book II is a natural continuation of Polyarc's debut chapter. The game world is larger, the opportunities for interaction have grown, and the deep connection you develop with Quill is more evident and sought after. New enemies, weapons and abilities make combat and puzzles more varied, interesting and engaging. The environments are richer and more surprising, inviting us to fully immerse ourselves in a fairytale world. But, just like the first time, it seems that the game stops just when it could have given us so much more. The controls can be a little cumbersome at times and unfortunately expose PSVR's shortcomings, but Moss Book 2 is still one of the best experiences you can have on PlayStation.

In our review of Death Stranding Director's Cut we put aside the big words because once again we needed to explain, explain and explain again its indecipherable gameplay, as well as the introduction of the new gadgets and tasks released with the Director's Cut. Whether you only discover it now, or you decide to upgrade from the previous version, Death Stranding remains an experience that, regardless of your personal taste, is valid, important and destined to remain lucid in the memories of those who will trust it, for a very long time. Almost as prophetic as the brilliant Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Sam Porter Bridges' journey westwards, despite some unnecessarily brainy and drawn-out sequences, remains profound and filled with messages and social themes too powerful to be ignored, which first pass through the gameplay, with the efforts required of the player, and then culminate in a genuinely moving final sequence. We will not begin, as practice would require, to justify at any cost the high rating that will surely be making someone turn up their nose, but if you are tired of the usual experiences, and want to experience on yourself something really new, try Death Stranding ... and trust that never as in this case, a gameplay on YouTube just will not be enough to make you understand what you're about to meet.

8.5 / 10.0 - Crusader Kings III
Mar 29, 2022

Crusader Kings 3 on Xbox Series X confirms itself as one of the best management games on consoles, since it has all the peculiar characteristics of the original edition, with the addition of some features and with a revised interface to be fully palatable to an audience with joypad in hand. Too bad for the artificial intelligence implemented, which is not a real ally for real players of this genre, but a good expedient for those who are not accustomed to baste in first person the offensive advance on the battlefield.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands can be considered one of the best games of the franchise, if not one of the most successful titles of Gearbox; although the writing level does not reach the high level set by Borderlands 2 we are still faced with a completely crazy adventure, able to entertain for hours thanks to a gameplay formula well established and perfected.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the best of the celebrations for the iconic Nintendo mascot's 30th anniversary, as well as a great starting point for a series that has been searching for a new identity for too many years. Hal Laboratory Inc. and Nintendo's new production isn't perfect in every aspect, but what was achieved with Kirby and the Forgotten Land is far more convincing and, with the right differentiations, this new iteration of Nintendo's iconic mascot could easily fill the hole left in each generation of Nintendo's consoles between one three-dimensional Mario chapter and the next. At the moment we can only assure you that Kirby has, at long last, found its optimum size and that Nintendo Switch has gained another exclusive of undoubted value.

7.8 / 10.0 - Ghostwire: Tokyo
Mar 21, 2022

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a production that aims, above all, to entertain. It doesn't try to reinvent anything that has already been proposed by other productions, but it sets itself the important goal of succeeding in making that open world formula "different", proposing an intriguing combat system, over the top activities and a decidedly successful artistic direction. The final result undoubtedly works well, but it won't change the opinion of those who don't appreciate, or don't appreciate anymore, open worlds that are extremely driven and full of redundant activities, while it will surely succeed in entering the hearts of those who love Japanese horror or simply appreciate the style that has always distinguished Shinji Mikami's works.

8.5 / 10.0 - Tunic
Mar 16, 2022

So this is the magic of Tunic, the ability to combine tradition and innovation, using as main ingredient an element, the manual, which is really one of the most extraordinary devices ever seen recently in a videogame. It also has a certain symbolic and emotional value, for those who still remember the instruction manuals of twenty years ago. It doesn't matter if in the very last hours you feel the lack of an amalgam (narrative, above all, since also the story is quite obscure), that fully justifies the resolution of the most hidden puzzles (whose resolution is necessary to unlock the real ending): it is the small and negligible duty to pay to the creation of an exciting, intelligent and unique experience.

Syberia: The World Before has finally arrived and, apart from a few inaccuracies here and there, we can safely consider it as a worthy sequel within a saga that deserves to be treated always and only with the utmost respect. This fourth chapter succeeds in the right way, experimenting and adding something new without upsetting in any way the series we knew twenty years ago. A work that may not be perfect, but which does justice to an unforgettable artist like Benoit Sokal.

While not introducing many new features compared to the fourth chapter, Monster Energy Supercross 5 reconfirms the good qualities seen in the past: a lot of fun and content that will satisfy the most hardened Supercross fans. Despite a visual component that could be improved, Milestone has worked more than satisfactorily on the physics section, setting a gameplay that is never trivial and accessible to everyone. In the future we wouldn't mind seeing a bit more, but until then the Supercross niche can still sleep easy and enjoy a title that meets their expectations.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, while presenting itself as a game in the game, the largest expansion ever created for the series, ends up keeping these promises only in purely content terms.

Square Enix and Team Ninja's latest experiment is a diamond in the rough that you have to sort through depending on which aspects you consider most important in a video game. The anachronistic technical aspect, the confusing visual style, and above all the terrible level of writing will risk alienating players looking for a "classic" Final Fantasy. If you can disengage from expectations and not place too much importance on the story, you might even find its overt tamarazzine hilarious. Within these rough edges, however, pulses a solid action RPG with a technical and layered battle system that, despite its flaws, pleasantly dragged us through hours of challenging and damn fun combat, especially against bosses. If you've never played a soulslike before, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin might be the best way to take your first step into a genre of games with a higher than average level of challenge, but even if you've grown up on bread and Estus you'd do well not to take it lightly. More than ever, we recommend trying out the online demo before deciding whether or not to buy it.

The Witch Queen is the expansion that all Destiny players have been waiting for, and the best of Bungie's expansions to date. The new location of Tronomondo is fascinating, full of mysteries and breathtaking for the majesty of the fortress of Savathun and the areas that will be accessed by looking beyond the illusions. Thematically it is a campaign that matures further, taking to new levels what it began to do with Beyond the Light. The length of the campaign is far greater than in the past, combined with higher difficulties and replayable weekly missions, Destiny 2 The Witch Queen offers a fully immersive experience that values the investment and dedication of its players. Destiny 2 is currently in its best shape: rich in content, activities that enhance the new void subclass and adds extensive customisation of firearms with the crafting system. Balancing issues and drop rates remain to be fixed as soon as the team collects enough data.
