The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a faithful port of a PSP classic. It ticks all of the boxes for a typical noughties JRPG that offers a tonne of nostalgia for fans of the genre, but with an arcade action-adventure style that brings a fun pick-up-and-play vibe for a broader audience. That said, it’s a game that shows its considerable age; with few modern improvements added, players may well grow tired of the formulaic gameplay long before the heavily padded content is complete.

A shell of a game, and not even close to the quality of Falcom's The Legend of Heroes series.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a competent action RPG worth playing. Despite a few limitations that may annoy some players and a story that may be a weak point, the general experience showcases the late 2000's/early 2010's Nihon Falcom design style very well and continues to be as compelling as it was back then.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a fun, breezy action RPG with an interesting story and great cast. Though combat can become repetitive and frustrating, it’s never enough to significantly detract from an addictive gameplay loop.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails emerges as a noteworthy addition to Nihon Falcom's esteemed portfolio, offering a different yet familiar experience for fans of the Trails and Ys series. With its first-ever English localization, the game brings action RPG elements into a narrative that, while not as complex as its Trails counterparts, is engaging in its own right. Despite some repetitiveness in level design and combat, the game shines in its technical polish, visual aesthetics, and captivating soundtrack.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a very interesting and fun action RPG. It may not be at the levels of the other titles with which it shares the series -Trails- or the ones it is most similar to -Ys and Zwei-, but it is still a good title in the Nihon Falcon catalog that can be played with more simplicity than usual but with the good work of the Japanese company's titles. Recovering titles like this for the West is appreciated.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a charming action RPG that’ll keep player hooked in with its slick combat and swift pacing. I loved playing through levels, completing all of their objectives, and continually upgrading my skillset, whilst the satisfying combat mechanics ensure it’s always fun to battle enemies – especially the boss encounters which offers some strategically fun showdowns. Add to that the charming presentation that manages to hold up well despite being an eleven-year-old PSP game, and it’ll be easy to see that The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is well worth the attention of action RPG fans.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a fun action RPG whose portable origins shine through for better and worse. While definitely fun, its story and gameplay can feel a tad slight at times, especially as the game goes on. Still, fans of Falcom’s other titles will find a lot of what they love about the developer’s work here and should absolutely give The Legend of Nayuta a shot.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a masterful spinoff boasting its own distinct identity, with an addictive gameplay loop enhanced by several excellently woven upgrade and replayability systems, as well as a finely crafted narrative and loveable cast that works well thanks to the relatively compact scale of it all. The stellar voice work and, as in typical Falcom fare, the sublime soundtrack also serve to make this adventure a must-play no matter one’s history with the developer’s lineup. This spiritual successor of sorts to Zwei is such a considerate blast from the past that I want to see more of in Falcom’s future.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is an enjoyable entry with a well-paced narrative, fantastic world-building that pays off in a big way, and gameplay that brings a new level of fun to the formula by going all in on Ys-like action rather than the turn-based that the series is known for.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a straightforward adventure with action gameplay that isn’t too complicated. While not as epic story wise as other Trails games, and not as challenging an action game as those in the Ys series, I think it’s still worth going through this journey with Nayuta. It’s easy to get into for newcomers and veteran fans alike, and the great cast of characters and outstanding music will charm many players. If you’re looking for a fun action RPG that won’t eat a lot of your time, then look no further than Boundless Trails.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails brings a vastly different experience compared to other Trails games, but it's a true Falcom title that will captivate players all the same. From an otherworldly setting with dozens of levels to a simple gameplay system that evolves with progression, Falcom presents a very fun action RPG with high replay value, and intriguing story/lore, and a pleasant cast of characters.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is one of those rare, utterly exceptional games that leaves me at a loss for words upon completion. It’s a crime that this game took as long as it did to come westward, but better late than never. Better still is that it stands tall like a well-aged wine. Nayuta’s tale deftly weaves all of developer Falcom’s best talents into a single emotional and fun-filled synthesis. Crunchy, satisfying combat and platforming is strengthened further by an incredibly fun progression system that gives you more even after the credits roll. The story is imagination-filled, emotional, and left me so content that I shed some tears at its ending. I could list some nitpicks I had with the game, but they mean nothing in the face of how otherwise accomplished this package is. If you're looking for the single, shining example of what Falcom excels at, this is the game you look to.

'The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails' was originally released for PSP. Even though it was remastered, its graphic quality is a little crude. But various puzzles, immersive combats, and fairytale-like fantasy world await you. It will be a good appetizer before playing Trails series.
