An incredible adventure from beginning to end, God of War Ragnarok is epic in scale and nuanced in character. Its combat and gameplay haven’t changed much but why fix almost peerless systems? Ragnarök is an absolute must-play on the PS5 and a worthy contender for Game of the Year.

God of War Ragnarök is a new demonstration of the might of Sony's internal teams. An epic, colossal sequel, but also sensitive and intimate, which not only improves on its predecessor in each and every one of the sections, but also saves its own cards to surprise the player at each new step.

God of War Ragnarök is magnificent. A true sequel that surpasses almost everything that the previous game had and more. It's grand story does not sacrifice any form of character development or subtlety and in fact somehow manages to enhance it. The fast and frenetic combat leaves you wanting more and every boss fight main story or otherwise leaves you on the edge of your seat.

God of War Ragnarok doesn't reinvent the series, but it didn't need to, what we got is a masterful improvement on the previous game, with an engaging story and a more fluid combat that I wholeheartedly recommend to every fan.

It’s hard to find much of anything to complain about when it comes to God of War Ragnarok. The complex characters and storyline provide a plethora of feelings. The developers have breathed so much depth and life into this series that previously focused on combat over narrative substance. There’s still plenty of violent combo-focused action, but the option for exploration and puzzle-solving balances out the mechanics and adds a bit of curve to the otherwise linear storyline.

Googling Ragnarok before “Santa Monica Studio” announced their sequel to the incredibly received God of War (2018), you’d see a flurry of Marvel references or even Wikipedia pages devoted to Norse mythologies version of the Apocolypse. Now you google Ragnarok, and most links, news, and images all refer to the incredible 2022 God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War: Ragnarök is nothing short of a divine experience, on every level. It somehow manages to improve on everything from the phenomenal 2018 entry. The story, gameplay, environmental design, technical consistency, performances – it's all absolutely flawless. This work of art is challenging, it's impactful, it's exciting, it's touching and it's beautiful. For all that and more, this is a title that deserves to join the pantheon of one of the best works in our industry. There are no perfect games, but damn if God of War: Ragnarök isn't incredibly close to that feat.

There are many ways to leave a mark on a player, whether it is by a character that captivates you, a breathtaking world, or a story that grabs you until you know what happens at the end. God of War: Ragnarok was patient in its arrival, but delivers in all the ways I have listed, leaving an axe in the middle of the arena for those who try to challenge it.

I could go on and on about God of War Ragnarok, I really could. My closing thoughts continue to be about what an incredible journey this game is. It’s near flawless, in every way, and any criticisms are nit-picks, rather than genuine weak points. The Game Of The Year, right here, and to be honest, in my humble opinion, by a country mile.

The team at Santa Monica Studios have caught lightning in a bottle twice in a row now. God of War Ragnarok is an incredible masterpiece, and an experience I have no issue recommending to anyone looking for a great video game. It’s story is driven by a stunning cast of characters and elevated by industry leading art, music and character writing. The game itself bleeds quality. I can only imagine the pressure the team had to follow up the legacy of the last game, but they’ve managed to improve on God of War (2018) in every way, while maintaining true to everything that made the game great. Ragnarok is certainly going to be in the mix when the next ‘game of the generation’ discussions happen again in the coming years.

God of War Ragnarök is a masterpiece. Even though the game maintains many elements that were established in its predecessor, it refines them to create an unforgettable experience. The quintessential storytelling is a highlight of the medium and its impeccable combat will keep you enthralled throughout. Although Santa Monica Studios set a high bar with their previous outing, Ragnarök soars above it.

Though it is hard to be certain that this is the greatest game of all time, It definitely has its rightful place around the masterpieces. The relatively simple narrative has become more complex but solid, characters' individuality and Santa Monica's directing skills combined to show the best-ever narrative delivery. The level design and combat sequence, which were close to the best, have also been able to take a step further. The one and only drawback to this game is that this is the last of its great saga.
