Sunbreak's lack of innovation on the core gameplay loop and the threat of repetition burnout ever-present, this package is ultimately more of the same.

Sunbreak is the ideal title for people who thought Monster Hunter Rise was too forgiving and that it gave the player too many options for evading the monsters. The Master Rank quests can be extremely punishing, but Sunbreak is intended for those who have beaten Monster Hunter Rise and are looking for that next level of difficulty. It takes time to hit its stride and the omission of Rampage quests is puzzling, but there is some great new content here that is worth exploring, especially for those who enjoyed the base version of the game.

If you'll ignore all the little hiccups then Sunbreak can offer you tens if not hundreds of hours of engaging gameplay. But sadly the game as a whole feels a little bit stale, so it's possible you won't be coming for more after beating the story campaign missions.

Monster Hunter Rise's Sunbreak expansion is jam-packed with content, but does it live up to Iceborne?

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is an enjoyable expansion full of cool new monsters but not many new ideas.

I’ve had a great time with Sunbreak overall. The lack of new monsters plagues the early hours, but there’s plenty to love if you keep at it. The added flexibility of the Switch Skill Swap system is a freeing and fun expansion to combat for hardcore hunters and the new creatures in the Master Rank quests – when you get to them – breathe life into the experience. For someone already invested in Monster Hunter, there’s plenty to love in Sunbreak. Just don’t expect to see a lot of new content in the opening hours.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a good expansion and continues the tradition of giving players a lot for their money. With events, free DLC and monsters that will get added over the game’s life, players won’t ever feel cheated when it comes to spending money on this game.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is pretty much everything a Monster Hunter Rise player could ask for, with its array of improvements and additions big and small which go from new monsters, new characters, new abilities for the weapons, as well as the Master Rank, the Switch Skills and other elements that players will be delighted to discover. Truly an unmissable expansion that does wonders for an already excellent game.

Sunbreak is exactly what it needs to be: modern and fluid enough to attract new players, and tough enough to keep veterans coming back. Stick with it, and you'll be rewarded for your effort. If you're seeking a quick, low-stakes fix of fun, however, you might want to look elsewhere.

‎All in all, we are very satisfied with Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. It's everything we expected. New monsters, new moves and new challenges. At the same time, Sunbreak is not so difficult that you have to use the Swap Scrolls, just like you could play Rise without fully mastering the wirebugs. We also like that there are traps in the area again for players to use. If cross saves was finally a thing, this expansion was perfect very close.‎

Sunbreak focuses on improving nearly every aspect of its base game. Hunting monsters continues to provide immense satisfaction years after the release of the original Monster Hunter titles.

Sunbreak takes a while to get going, but the new monsters, mechanics, and armor make it worth the initial trudge through familiar content.

I continue to play Sunbreak because the bones of Monster Hunter Rise are so good, but not because it’s packed wall to wall with new content. It’s a serviceable reason to hop back in, and you’ll find some surprises along the way. The new monsters that are there are some of the best, there just simply aren’t enough of them.

All told, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is more of the same core experience, complete with the best gameplay the series has ever seen. While it cuts out one of the base game's unique modes and features, follower quests are a fantastic addition for offline play. The story could use some better pacing, but the mission structure continues to be spread out very well with new and returning monsters becoming available at a relatively decent pace - aside from the post-game grind to the final monster. Regardless, Sunbreak is an astounding expansion and a must-have for any hunter for both Offline and Online play.

Sunbreak isn't something that every Monster Hunter fan needs to go out of their way to experience. But it is new, challenging content for Rise players along with Follower Quests and a new endgame to grind through. If you're a fan of the current formula, then the expansion is well worth jumping in to.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a great companion to even out the base game's experience. It never reaches the mountain highs of Iceborne, but jumping in for just a few hunts or basking in the grind has never been smoother.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a well-stocked expansion that builds on the base game. It's new difficult monsters, a new city, and some new game mechanics. While it's not a game-changing addition, the expansion is a must-have for fans – and also a decently good starting point for beginners.
