Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is a fun action adventure inspired by the classic Zelda series. While it mimics much of what makes those games great, it adds it's own brand of magic to the formula. Despite some simple combat, Oceanhorn is a worthy foray filled with peril and treasure. An enjoyable experience for adventure seekers everywhere!

Oceanhorn is unashamedly a Legend of Zelda clone, but feels more like an homage than a copycat. There are few original ideas, but old-school adventure game fans should love Oceanhorn's bite-sized interpretation of Zelda's classic formula.

Oceanhorn is an interesting game that some people will enjoy and some people will hate. The inspiration drawn from Zelda oozes all throughout the game, and that can be a bit off-putting for some. For myself however, I think Zelda-clones should end up becoming a new thing. Considering the amount of years we have to wait between Zelda entries, why not embrace games that capture the spirit of a classic franchise? Oceanhorn isn't original, it isn't perfect, and it isn't necessarily memorable, but not every game can be. It's a simple, fun Zelda-clone that will bring fans of the franchise great enjoyment in between sessions of Breath of the Wild.

Oceanhorn perhaps tries a bit too much to be like a Zelda game and could do with a bit more originality. Despite this it is still a very enjoyable game with its challenging boss battles and colourfully detailed world, however with a bit more polish to some of its puzzle mechanics it could have broken its boundaries and left more of an impression of its own.

Oceanhorn is a good game. The music is great, but the character designs are very poor. That being said If you want a Zelda-like game on the Playstation then this is the game you need.

Cornfox's attempt at taking on the Zelda formula makes for a neat but flawed little adventure. While not as polished, it's worth taking a look if you're a fan of Legend of Zelda style gameplay.

It's obvious from the get go that Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas feels no shame about borrowing heavily from classics like The Wind Waker and A Link to the Past. However, despite being very clone-like in nature and lacking in originality, this game still manages to be quite good. Sure, it doesn't live up to Link's name, but it's polished, interesting and enjoyable enough to be worth a gander.

I was very happy to play this title, and it felt right at home on the Nintendo Switch and being able to play on the go, and I can’t wait to see what this studio comes up with next.

Oceanhorn is a competent, budget, bite-sized Zelda-like experience that is not without its flaws, both in terms of glitches and in terms of sheer game design.

Despite having a charming art style, the combat can feel underwhelming. Still as the first effort by a small independent team, the game is highly polished and offers an enjoyable experience on the Nintendo Switch.

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas's comparisons to the Zelda series amplify its shortcomings but, as a standalone title, the game delivers a very enjoyable adventure. Gamers looking for a simpler challenge will relish the title, while those looking for something more engaging may be put off, but it remains a very well developed experience. Recreating the magic of a Zelda game is a tall order but Cornfox & Bros. has made a valiant effort to do so.

It is pretty easy to spot the inspirations behind the title Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas. This is a game that has found its way onto just about every platform available now, and of all of them the Switch seems like a suitably comfortable home, lending itself nicely to the pick-up-and-play mentality that Nintendo has been pushing for its hybrid home and portable console. It is a fun game that kind of feels like a portable Zelda title, even though Oceanhorn would have benefited from taking a few more chances along the way to better establish its own identity.

At the end of the day Oceanhorn stands a bit in the shadow of the classic Zelda games that inspired it but at the same time has more to offer than its age and lineage would imply. This isn't a AAA game, but it appropriately also lacks the AAA price tag, so as long as you scale your expectations fresh off of playing the likes of Breath of the Wild it shouldn't be quite so jarring. If you're in search of a game that will satisfy you for a weekend or two, depending on how much attention you're setting aside for its 10+ hours, it is an enjoyable experience if the pace and level of challenge are a good fit. I have high hopes for the upcoming sequel, to see what the team has learned and what they can produce when they're targeting the console market as the base this time around.

Oceanhorn is Zelda-like experience for every one of us who has never played one. For Zelda fans, it's just a familiar, if simplified, experience. For every one though it's a nice looking and somewhat challenging title to fully complete. It encompasses many of the open world RPG elements in small levels based on tiles. I'd recommend to play it, but maybe first try it on mobile.

If you've got a hankering for a game with a stamina meter, sword swinging, and pot smashing, there is at least one other better title on the Nintendo Switch that I can think of, but Oceanhorn is an alright little throwback to retro Zelda titles that could help you bide your time between Nintendo's slow trickle of AAA games this year. Now, when do I get to play the sequel?

Oceanhorn is an excellent mobile game that loses some of its magic in the transition to consoles. The inspiration from the Zelda series is welcome for fans of the franchise but also exposes some of its shortcomings when compared to the beloved title. If you're pining for a Zelda-style adventure on PS4 or Xbox One with an affordable price, however, this homage to old-school action adventuring is still worth hopping onto.

Oceanhorn is a game that works well on Switch, mainly because of its similarities to Zelda, but is really gameplay limited and lasts only 10 hours.

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is a quick experience into an alternate dimension Legend of Zelda title. While some are going to find the trip a remarkable one, others are simply going to see Oceanhorn as nothing more than a game imitating a much better game. I did enjoy the time spent on the journey, but it just didn't offer enough for me to really want to dig deeper into it. I am excited for the future of the series though, as Cornfox & Bros. can really do something amazing with the sequel.

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is an ambitious title that does some things rather well, finding a way to endear itself to players. It has a few problems, some from design choices and others from its mobile legacy that should have been adjusted for console, but what it doesn't lack is heart. The desire of the developers to pay homage to classic adventure series, but in their own way, shines through. It's a flawed title, but if you're willing to overlook those issues you may find it to be an enjoyable experience on the Switch eShop.
