It's not the smartest, prettiest, or smoothest point and click game ever made, but it's the best faithful iteration of the Adventure Time franchise brought to gaming consoles. Fans surely won't be disappointed and even folks that like the genre might find some fun moments in the land of Oooo, WHOA Algebraic!

Like a lot of licensed games, there are very distinct levels of enjoyment to be had. If you're a fan of adventure gaming, pointing and clicking through puzzles and looking for clues, Investigations is a respectable callback to that era and whose fault might be in leaving the IP's younger fans behind. If you're a fan of the series, it's an inelegant trip into the peculiar land of Ooo that saves itself by adoring the series as much as the fans who might play it. Surely the folks in the middle of that Venn Diagram will get the most out of Finn and Jake Investigations and those who fall completely outside of it can save their dosh and skip the game entirely.

Although it suffers from some hiccups in presentation and a nearly needless combat system, Adventure Time: Jake & Finn Investigations plays to the strengths of the show by concentrating on its appealing world and characters. While it might prove too basic for more advanced players, younger players and families should have a fun time questing with dog and human. Big fans of the show, of course, should not feel so afraid to give this one a try, either.

From the start, it would have been appropriate to show cautious optimism by reason of track record, and following my time with Adventure Time: Finn & Jake Investigations, cautious optimism is still an appropriate course of action. Investigations doesn't possess fresh ideas, but there are moments that make the experience an enjoyable one. It's just too bad they aren't the majority. While I would advise against spending top dollar, there's an amusing but flawed experience to be had in Investigations that, if nothing else, will provide a few laughs.

Fans may want to give it a look, but it doesn't quite make the top "graybles" list to add to your collection.

A strong point-and-click game that strikes a good balance between being family-friendly and not too easy as to be no challenge. The game is led by a strong storyline, delivered with great voice acting. If you're a fan of the TV show then you'll love it, but be aware that it may not be that engaging if you haven't seen it.

Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations is a game that takes the bad with the good, and mixes it all into a big sloppy mess. An obviously good choice for parents whose children love Adventure Time, or potentially even adults with the same affinity, assuming the occasional poorly designed puzzle system can be looked past. It's a dumb, fun game for people that like dumb, fun stuff.

While Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations doesn't commit any felonies, a series of misdemeanors suggest you should approach with some caution. Exploring the Land of Ooo, seeing familiar locations in three dimensions, and interacting with the whimsical cast of characters will delight the most-invested fans of the series. Sadly, the effort that went into ensuring the license was handled with care wasn't applied to the entirety of the game, and the result is an experience that's often enjoyable but ultimately a bit flat.

By default, I feel as if this is the best Adventure Time video game so far. It's not perfect, and it's a little on the easy side, but as an Adventure Time fan, it made me smile.

Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations' biggest problem is that everything just feels bland. Quests are bland, the act of investigation is bland, and the combat is either fast and fun or slow and arduous. For fans of the series, this should surely delight and be a nice way to kill some time. For the rest of you, this might not quite scratch the itch you have for if you've longed for a good point and click brawler. At the very least, the developers should get respect for trying out two very different genres together, even if they failed to make them a good match.

Adventure Time: Finn & Jake Investigations is eventually a Sherlock Holmes game with an Adventure Time skin and dialect (Algabraic!"), but that is quite okay by me. The finnicky issues that arose did little to take away from how whimsical the game is. The story? Great. The graphics? Great? The sound? Mathematical!

Graphically Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations is fairly poor but there's a certain charm to it, with the script definitely helping to boost up its score a tiny bit. It's far from a great game but it's an interesting base that will hopefully be built upon. The target audience is definitely younger gamers but there's enough of a challenge over the 6-10 hours of play time there for older gamers if they fancy giving it a go.
