As someone who enjoys puzzle games, I found that Paper Trail hits the mark. The game appears simple but is actually complex with varying levels of difficulty (sometimes a bit too much). The logic of folding and creating new paths isn't immediately obvious, and it takes a few levels to get into the flow. However, the constant changes in dynamics keep the challenge engaging without being impossible. Highly recommended, despite being completed relatively quickly.

Paper Trail is a beautiful indie puzzle game with unique mechanics that isn’t afraid to present its players with a challenge. Its strong color schemes and charming characters will make this a great addition to your cozy games collection, especially if you’re looking for something to put your brain to work. However, finicky controls on console creates some very minor hindrances which, if you’re already feeling a bit stumped on some puzzles, can lead you to stepping away for a short spell.
Paper Trail is an exceptionally innovative puzzler that is challenging and offers solid features even if the story falls paper flat. I started off prejudging the game’s difficulty, but by the end of the few hours of the campaign I was astonished by the multi-layered puzzles that were expertly crafted with challenge.
Paper Trail is, at its core, a wonderful adventure through page bending worlds. Paige is an adorable main character and the atmosphere that it creates through its design and music is stellar. The reason I’m not giving a platinum award is because the difficulty curve felt a little too steep. I would still recommend Paper Trail to any fans of puzzle or cozy games. That’s why it has been awarded the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
If you like games with zen vibes and a charming story that is rich with puzzles, Paper Trail is likely a game for you. Don’t let its difficulty level scare you away, as there are resources to help you succeed. With this being Newfangled Games’ first game, I’m thrilled to see what they produce next.

Honestly, it would be a shame to miss out on such a delightfully frustrating game, even if you aren't into puzzle games. I have to say though, if you are looking for a game to destress with, [Paper Trail] isn't the one.

While the concept may not be entirely new, the gameplay and delightful characters truly steal the show in Paper Trail. The innovative use of origami to manipulate the environment and unlock hidden pathways is simply genius. I have never experienced a game quite like Paper Trail, and I have a feeling that any future game attempting to emulate its unique mechanics will have an exceedingly tough act to follow. I am beyond impressed with this stellar gem of a game and cannot wait to see what other delightful surprises it has in store for me.
