Immersive, deep and immersive... oh well, sorry for the sketch, Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is a pleasant and detailed story that starts with the aim of detailing a painful story, made up of the various crew members, who have interesting subplots. The game design then focuses on offering a great way to tell one's story, especially to those looking for a fairly long-lived and intense experience. It is a video game that, however, could have dared a little more.

There’s also the odd choice to render some solutions on the mystery board as cutscenes with NPCs acting out past events. These are usually a bit stiff and awkward, with characters rendered inexplicably in highlighter yellow. They seem like an effort to heighten the drama of the game’s most important moments. But in leaving less to the imagination, they instead have the opposite effect—shining too bright a light on a story that thrives in its moments of murky mystery.

Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is one of those games that's best played blind. It's a grounded yet enthralling mystery that uses its light clue-combining mechanics to convey an emotional journey of closure and grief. Its puzzles get you thinking without ever being too hard, allowing the story to naturally play out in the lonely ruins of this sunken ship.

Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is a walking simulator with a compelling story, but it feels and looks like a game from at least ten years ago.

Filled with engaging puzzles and a story that's both compelling and deeply emotional, there's a lot to love about Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss. Some of its mechanics are a little clunky, and there's the odd technical issue, but they're worth overlooking for the mystery that awaits under the waves.

There is a moderately intriguing narrative in Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss as you solve mysteries within a well-preserved shipwreck, but flimsy clues, tedious wandering, and technical blemishes mean playing it can be like fighting to keep your head above water.

Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss, tells a poignant, intriguing, rather unhappily tinged story of introspection that takes place entirely beneath the ocean depths. Exploring the remains of the ship - provided we get past the initial stages - is utterly engrossing, and deciphering its mysteries (more than fifty) kept us engaged from start to finish. Yes, some elements don't work very well, such as the menus - a bit difficult to navigate and use - but going over and turning a blind eye, you will really struggle to stop playing this adventure of mysteries and revelations.

“Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss” delivers a beautifully crafted narrative that excels in storytelling and atmosphere. While it may not satisfy those in search of high-octane action, its emotional depth and enthralling world set it apart in its genre. It’s a must-try for enthusiasts of narrative-driven exploration games that focus on emotional storytelling. Yet, players should brace themselves for its measured pacing, repetitive gameplay elements, and potential frustration due to extensive backtracking and trial-and-error puzzles.
