Given the source material One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 is likely to be avoided by most as they have no connection already in place and the genre is ten-a-penny on the current generation of consoles. This would be a mistake. The story is lively and full of interesting characters even if it's basic in its plotting and execution. Thats not a problem though given the focus is on the battles themselves and the mechanics of the fighting, made ever deeper thanks to the variety of crew members at your disposal and the combos that come with them. Its not Bayonetta depth but it sits well alongside Kratos and company. The structure can get repetitive but theres so much going on in addition to the main objectives that if you enjoy this at the start youll still do so at the end. The otaku edge to it is the nudge needed to make it a worthwhile addition to your collection.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is a simple musou that should please fans of the genre and the One Piece series but probably won't impress anyone.

The Switch version of Pirate Warriors 3 may not be the most detailed graphic version out there, but the developers put a considerable amount of work to guarantee the same experience for Nintendo users.

[W]hat it does bring is the best representation of One Piece to a video game, while giving fans the chance to get caught in all of Luffy's mad adventures in a fun and solid, if uninspiring, Warriors game aimed to depict the madness that comes with taking down hundreds of enemies with unique characters.

This is an entertaining way for long time fans to re-explore their favorite One Piece moments or even unfamiliar fans to get acquainted with what they've been missing. However, when you strip all that away, this is just another Warriors game and certainly not the best playing one.

A One Piece Dynasty Warriors mashup. It’s more for the fans of the One Piece manga or anime, but it’s quite fun if you are interested in the story.

Instead of enjoying both fighting and dialogue, it became a weird kind of chore to play through battles just to progress the story.

[D]espite the occasional frame-rate drops and the repetitiveness, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is a fairly fun game. Between the fast-paced combat, large number of playable characters, and up to par visuals, it is a must-play for Dynasty Warrior or One Piece fans. It might not be perfect, but it is probably the best game that follows the Dynasty Warriors formula currently out on the PS4.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 on Switch runs great, is amazing for fans and once again has some great combat. It's a shame that newcomers will feel lost and that losing is so punishing. It does have plenty of content for musou fans and One Piece fans alike.

[F]ans of the anime might find something of value here provided they can tolerate game design that was bad 10 years ago. Equally, fans of Dynasty Warriors will probably go nuts for this title as it rehashes the same old ideas with new characters. For my money, I'd steer entirely clear unless you have a borderline unhealthy obsession with One Piece or Dynasty Warriors, or just really want to wipe out thousands of brainless enemies (which is cool – everybody has their vices).

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 delivers absurd action and offers hours of replayable content, but drops the ball with its botched PC transition and lack of online multiplayer.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 does a better job of respecting the story and characters, but remains extremely safe on the gameplay front. Fun to play, but far from being the truly great gaming experience it can be.

I expected a lot more from this title and it definitely disappointed.

The repetitive missions grate all too soon and the bloated levelling makes little difference. The random chunks of story lack consistency and will only be understood by hardcore fans of the show, who deserve a better narrative than this. But when played in short bursts or with people online, there's an easy-going yet empowering flow to the action that makes it hard to put down.
