Mario Tennis Fever is a lively and inventive entry that shines brightest in multiplayer, thanks to its creative Fever rackets, varied modes, and accessible controls. The biggest downside is the sluggish story mode, but other than that there is plenty on fun to be had.

Mario’s latest tennis outing is a big improvement over 2018’s Mario Tennis Aces, with a more arcade feel to the gameplay, with 38 characters to choose from, plus the introduction of Fever Rackets and Mix It Up provides whole new ways to play. It’s great for serious and casual players, perfect for parties, and the online play is solid, with plenty of tough opponents to match up with.

Mario Tennis Fever is a successful arcade sports game that brings the series to maturity with multiple modes, a substantial roster and explosive gameplay, perfect for evenings with friends and online challenges. However, it falls short on the single-player front, with a story mode that doesn't fully exploit the potential of the cast and serves mainly as a long tutorial, and with a frenetic racket balance that will probably require some adjustment. Considering the solid gameplay and high replay value, however, Mario Tennis Fever is an experience that we would recommend to both tennis enthusiasts and casual players who want to try a few swings! Ultimately, there is no better compliment we can give Nintendo and Camelot than to say that Mario Tennis Fever has really excited us and gives us hope for the future of sports games set in the Mushroom Kingdom. If the developer manages to apply the same formula to Mario spin-offs dedicated to golf, baseball and football, then there will be many surprises in store for Nintendo Switch 2 throughout its history.

Mario Tennis Fever is the definitive celebration of arcade-style sports, delivering frenetic, addictive gameplay that is surprisingly strategic thanks to the Euphoric Racket system and the varied character archetypes. With stunning visuals that set a new standard for the franchise and impeccable localization, the title establishes itself as an absolute benchmark for the multiplayer genre. While the campaign mode and single-player–focused content may fall short for those who play alone, the game more than makes up for it with a wealth of creative modes and a ranked system that promises to keep competitive players hooked for a long time. It is, without a doubt, a perfect choice for gathering friends and dominating the courts of the Mushroom Kingdom

I had a really good time with Mario Tennis Fever. The rallies feel great, the roster is packed with fun characters, and multiplayer kept me coming back for more. Adventure Mode and a few balance issues stop it from being a must‑have, and the full price feels a little high, but the core tennis action is strong enough that I still enjoyed my time with it. I know I’ll keep jumping into multiplayer matches with friends because that is where the game really shines. It is a lively, charming addition to the Switch 2 lineup.

Mario Tennis Fever comes highly recommended because it remains a very entertaining franchise, both when playing solo and with friends. The addition of the furor rackets is particularly welcome, preventing matches from becoming repetitive and bringing a much-needed freshness to the series. The wide variety of game modes makes for a highly addictive experience, all accompanied by brilliant audiovisuals.

Mario Tennis Fever is a lively and content-packed tennis game with creative modes and chaotic Fever Rackets that spice up matches. While some modes may feel short and occasionally repetitive, its charm, variety, and vibrant presentation make it a delightful addition to the series.

Mario Tennis Fever greatly improves upon the rough edges found in previous Mario sports titles and offers plenty of content right from the start. Although its Adventure Mode leaves much to be desired, the game delivers fun mechanics with surprising depth, along with a variety of additional gameplay modes.

Mario Tennis Fever, at its core, is a great game of tennis. Features this time around add a lot more to the core game than previous titles, and both the online and local multiplayer modes are pretty great. Unfortunately, the lack of quality content makes this hard to recommend to everyone.

While I’m a bit disappointed in the Adventure campaign, Mario Tennis Fever feels strong thanks to its Fever Rackets and range of modes. Switch 2 version reviewed. Review copy provided by company for testing purposes.

Mario Tennis Fever is Nintendo’s most approachable tennis game in years, with strong core mechanics and a Fever Racket system that adds variety and flair. Adventure mode is slight, but Tournament and Trial Towers modes, plus a robust multiplayer suite, give it real staying power.

Mario Tennis Fever feels like a complete game, which wasn't the case with Aces on day one. The many characters, Fever Rackets, unique modes, and extra-strong online mode make Fever the best gameplay in the series ever.

Mario Tennis Fever serves a content-rich ace on Switch 2, revitalizing the franchise with inventive "Fever Rackets" and a charming, albeit brief, "Baby" campaign. While online netcode remains a double fault, the polished visuals and mechanical depth ensure this is the series' most robust baseline to date.

Mario Tennis Fever is the perfect party game if you’ve got a bigger group that loves a bit of friendly rivalry at gatherings. Outside of that setting, it offers too little for those who prefer playing solo within the comfort of their own four walls.

If you’re just looking to enjoy Mario Tennis Fever alongside family and friends in the same room, or even in ranked online play, there’s a great deal of fun to be had here. The tennis mechanics and the fever racket system combine to deliver the best (albeit most hectic) gameplay the series has seen in ages. It’s just such a shame that Mario Tennis Fever’s stellar multiplayer action feels so let down by the single player and other modes that surround it.

Mario Tennis Fever brings the most fun game modes in the franchise to date, introduces mechanics that provide countless different combinations and strategies with the Euphoric Rackets, and features the most varied cast of characters in the entire series. Fun is guaranteed with the mustachioed plumber and his friends on the most chaotic courts ever seen in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario Tennis Fever is a fantastic tennis game that overcomes its slow and hand-hold-y story mode through its breadth of modes and gameplay styles, charming characterization, and excellent core gameplay. Even if sports aren’t typically your thing, I recommend checking out Mario Tennis Fever, as it’s another exceptional Nintendo Switch 2 title to fill out the first year’s library.
