Beast of Reincarnation Reviews
While the parrying mechanics and cooperative action with <Ku> are solid enough, the game becomes tedious as it fails to effectively convey its narrative, including its compelling worldview and the characters´ emotional arcs. Combined with monotonous boss battles, uninspired field design, and awkward camera angles, it ultimately feels like a title that still lacks the necessary know-how for crafting an action RPG.

Beast of Reincarnation is a bold step outside Game Freak’s comfort zone, and much of what works here showcases a genuinely talented studio trying something new. The problem is that the experience as a whole is held back by decisions that undermine its potential: a narrative that takes too long to get going, an excessive reliance on recycled bosses, repetitive environments, and PC optimization that still needs some work. It’s a game with genuine moments of brilliance, but they’re surrounded by quite a bit of padding, repetition, and a constant sense of “almost there.” It’s worth checking out for fans of the genre who are willing to overlook some missteps, but it falls well short of being the definitive leap Game Freak may have been looking for beyond Pokémon.

This should have been fantastic. The signs of a great game are easy to spot throughout Beast of Reincarnation. I loved its striking art direction and genuinely addictive combat system. The combat is so satisfying that you’ll actively go looking for enemies to slaughter simply because fighting them is too fun. On the other hand, its story is bland, its visuals can look surprisingly muddy, and the framerate seemingly refuses to behave like it belongs in a normal video game
Beast of Reincarnation isn't a perfect game, but one can argue that it came close. It had all the makings to be one of 2026’s breakout hits, but its flaws and weaknesses in all of its aspects were just too noticeable to let go. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game at all. Its extremely strong worldbuilding, enjoyable hybrid combat, and great art direction make it into an experience that’s compelling enough to get you through till the end.
'Beast of Reincarnation' is undoubtedly a game filled with great ingredients. It has plenty going for it, from its compelling world and characters to its satisfying action. Yet it ultimately fails to bring these elements together into a cohesive, polished experience. With shortcomings at nearly every turn preventing its individual strengths from complementing one another, the game ends up as a middling title, leaving behind little more than the unrealized potential to become something truly great.

Beast of Reincarnation boasts distinctive visuals and easy action, but meaningless, repetitive boss fights and generic level design keep it firmly short of what action-game fans expect — a game that fails to realize its own potential.

There are points in the experience that frustrated the hell out of me. Then, there were other points where I was loving every minute of it, celebrating every win. I think there is something special buried under the muck, and that’s a shame to think about. What a fully realized adventure might have looked like, but I did enjoy what we got. I liked it; sometimes I liked it a lot, even if I never came to love it.
Beast of Reincarnation is a game with clear potential, but one that currently feels far from fully realized. Its combat system is easily its strongest aspect, offering fast, intuitive gameplay that is accessible enough to avoid becoming overly frustrating. Unfortunately, almost everything else struggles to reach the same level.

Beast of Reincarnation delivers flashy and flexible combat through the strong partnership between Emma and Koo, but dull storytelling, repetitive environments, and a persistent lack of polish prevent its ambitious journey from reaching its full potential.

Beast of Reincarnation is akin to a botanical graft that successfully blends its influences to create something that, while capitalizing on the current game design trends, also retains a sense of honesty in what it wants to deliver and, of course, still serves as a reminder that Game Freak is still capable of producing sufficiently distinctive experiences when given the opportunity.

Ultimately, Beast of Reincarnation lands exactly where a 7.5 should. It’s too enjoyable to dismiss, too uneven to wholeheartedly recommend and consistently entertaining despite several obvious shortcomings.
Beast of Reincarnation has satisfying combat, fun exploration, and a great setting. Unfortunately, the game never fully realizes its potential due to repetitive encounters, inconsistent storytelling, and technical flaws.
Beast of Reincarnation delivers rewarding, parry-focused combat and a genuinely likable partnership between Emma and Koo. Repetitive enemies and pacing issues hold it back, but there's real ambition and craft on display.
Beast of Reincarnation proves that Game Freak can excel beyond Pokémon, delivering a compelling action RPG with rewarding combat, a striking post-apocalyptic world, and an ambitious adventure full of personality.

This Beast of Reincarnation review began with a question about the Soulslike label. After approximately thirty hours, I think that label still misses the point. This is a more welcoming and experimental action RPG. It is interested in teaching players rather than testing how much frustration they will tolerate. That accessibility comes with compromises. Enemy variety never keeps pace with the sophistication of the combat, and technical problems became increasingly difficult to ignore. Even so, I kept wanting one more fight. Game Freak built a combat foundation that grows into a playground for experimentation. Do not come expecting Elden Ring. Come expecting an action RPG that is more interested in making you feel capable than making you feel defeated.
Beast of Reincarnation delivers rewarding combat, memorable boss encounters, and imaginative world-building, but its slow narrative, inconsistent technical performance, and unrefined camera and lock-on systems undermine an otherwise promising action RPG. Its ambition is evident, even if the execution falls short.
A unique art style that blends post-apocalyptic imagery with traditional Japanese aesthetics makes the game feel almost like Princess Mononoke set centuries into the future. Alongside its attractive visuals, the gameplay—built around the protagonist’s unusual plant-based abilities, such as high jumps and aerial movement—is fairly intriguing. However, the repetitive boss and monster patterns make it difficult to stay engaged for long play sessions, and the quality of the character’s movement animations feels somewhat lacking. The game also lacks the kind of cinematic direction often seen in AAA titles, which makes it harder to become fully immersed in the story.

Beast of Reincarnation leaves the unmistakable mark of a bold yet unfinished project: the idea is there, the direction too, and at times Game Freak shows surprising confidence in stepping outside its creative comfort zone. But every spark is held back by rough design choices, a story that never takes off, and a gameplay loop that fades too quickly. The combat, however, is sharp, responsive, layered — sometimes even thrilling. It’s here that you glimpse what the game could have been: a fresh start, a sign of maturity for a studio long defined by a single brand. In the end, it’s a fascinating but uneven work, capable of both surprising and disappointing, suspended between strong ideas and clear limitations. Worth a look for anyone curious to see Game Freak truly experiment, even if it never becomes fully memorable.
