It pains me to be this harsh but The Alighieri Circle is simply not a great game. It does work from beginning to end and some of the artwork is very pretty, but the story is disappointing and the puzzles are barely worth of being called that.

The Alighieri Circle: Dante’s Bloodline is a fun game, and it manages to successfully integrate creative moments with weird ones.
I’m left with the feeling that this is a game with good ideas, but one that fails to realise its full potential. Its setting is one of its greatest strengths, particularly the design of the villa, the soundscape and the reinterpretation of Dante’s Inferno. I also think it’s a good move for ONE-O-ONE GAMES to focus on psychological horror rather than combat and cheap scares. On the other hand, however, the gameplay feels far too limited. The Alighieri Circle: Dante’s Bloodline is a bold reinterpretation of Dante’s legacy, but in reshaping the Inferno it often loses its emotional force and unforgettable imagery. Solid ideas and good Italian voice acting aren’t enough to lift Gabriele’s brief journey, caught between homage and independence. Interesting and ambitious, yet unable to stand beside the masterpiece it evokes.

The Alighieri Circle: Dante’s Bloodline might fumble its storytelling, but it delivers great puzzle design that really makes it worth your attention. It’s just a shame that some of its ideas don’t hit the same standard, because there’s a genuinely fascinating tale to be told here… it just could have done with a little bit more depth to help it stand out. Still, if you love a good brainteaser and appreciate a gloomy, well-crafted atmosphere, The Alighieri Circle: Dante’s Bloodline is definitely worth checking out.

The intent here is twofold: to spark interest through association and to provide a loose framing story. And both of these The Alighieri Circle achieves with its template drawn from the literary masterpiece. Yet anyone hoping for more of a "Divina Commedia" (like myself) will be bitterly disappointed. Gabriele's journey into the Inferno is a solid, yet superficially narrated work with clichés and an abstract, but ultimately too monotonous game world. At least the few trials we must face are quite entertaining in terms of gameplay and fit well into the game's atmosphere. However, what's missing are memorable highlights or more courage in exploring the existing elements in order to stand out from the crowd.
