Overall, the game is fantastic and lengthy. This is not a short game! I’m at well over 12 hours in the game and still have a lot to do! And yes, the game does indeed have a Platinum trophy. Unfortunately, this game has a ton of missable trophies, so good luck with your trophy run! I highly recommend that you purchase this wonderful point and click release for your PlayStation 4. I love the genre, and writing this Yesterday Origins review has been a great way to end my month!

Pacing issues, unnecessary backtracking and some frustratingly complex puzzles mar a title that is well-written and holds a lot of charm. A competent game but one that isn't quite as good as its predecessor.

Yesterday Origins is a fantastic point-and-click adventure that features comic-styled panels to showcase the story of John trying to find a cure for his memory loss.

Yesterday Origins is certainly not going to win over new fans who aren't already dedicated to graphic adventures. There is very little on offer that hasn't been seen already in every other point and clicker that has come out over the last decade, and the inconsistent style and tone would likely put off many players as they try to persevere through. The premise and variety of locales however do make exploration interesting for those who can forgive its faults, and this is far from a bad game - just one that could have benefited from a more focused design approach.

I like a lot about Yesterday Origins, however, there’s just as much bogging it down as I enjoyed. As it stands, I praise the really good bits highly, but the low ones, well, they creep up far too often. I do recommend the game, though I think if you’re not already a huge fan of the genre, you may want to wait to see if the bigger, more “game-breaking” issues get fixed before you jump in.

The title undoubtedly has fun and leaves room for both seriousness and irony, although in turn it is too accentuated. Graphically it's really enjoyable and the environments are cured, as well as dialogues that help a lot to immerse yourself in the adventure.

The puzzles are fiendishly tricky, the writing is witty, and once you get to grips with the not-particularly-slick controls, you may even love it. But we just keep coming back to that tragic voice acting. We can’t see past it. We can’t hear anything other than the stiff delivery. And it ruins the immersion of a game we desperately wanted to enjoy.

A general point and click, with an interesting historical story, and great references to the occult. However, it lacks in sound design and graphics, plus some of the gameplay feels untidy.

Yesterday Origins fails to escape many of the flaws of its genre, and doesn’t do enough with its story or characters to tolerate those issues.

Surely you have ever wondered what you would do if you were immortal. What would happen if, each time you died, you could come back to life a few minutes later. Would you dare to live to the limit? Would you try to correct the mistakes of your past ?. These are some of the questions posed by John Yesterday, the protagonist of this remarkable graphic adventure recently arrived at the catalog of our Switch.

Overall I think Yesterday Origins is a great experience for point and click adventure game fans. It presents a solid package very reminiscent of the second era of adventure gaming. If you liked Microids other efforts like the Syberia series, you’ll do well to pick this one up too as it’s more of the same, but potentially even better. Sure, a few presentation issues mar it a little as well as bizarrely sluggish controls but adventure fans will still enjoy it, even if it’s not going win any more people over to the genre. Still, if you want to settle down with a nice coffee or tea and play this one, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed, as long as you don’t mind checking a guide once in a while.

Yesterday Origins is a fairly successful return of immortal John Yesterday to our screens. The fans of hand-drawn adventure games and mystery themed stories should be not disappointed.
