Steins;Gate Reviews
Unlike the gameplay of Steins; Gate, it is the story which sets this visual novel apart from other games.
Steins;Gate features heavy scientific themes combined with a confusing choice system in a slow-paced story. Any problems are easily ignored when you really get into it though, with the relatable characters, voice acting and storytelling promising an unforgettable, emotional experience.
Steins;Gate is one of the finest visual novels translated to date. If you are a fan of Japanese culture and/or time travel plots, you will love this game.
Steins;Gate is one of those stories that comes around once in a blue moon. Its amazing hook factor coupled with its well fleshed out and engaging characters makes this one of the best science fiction stories of the modern era.
Despite its shortcomings STEINS;GATE is still a great visual novel with a great story about time travel.
This is, regardless of medium, one of the finest time travel stories to have been told, and a superb example of a true artist plying their craft. The other titles in the Science Adventure series have all been great and worth experiencing, but Steins;Gate sets itself completely apart as something truly special. Not only is it a requirement for any visual novel fan, but it is also an ideal title to introduce potential new players to the genre.
Visual novels may not be everyone's cup of tea, but anyone that loves delving deep into the world of a great book will be right at home with this intriguing science fiction adventure, being drawn into the heart of the time travel tale thanks to narrative of the finest calibre and some first class voice acting to bring the excellent cast of characters to life.
Steins;Gate may not be for everyone, but those looking for a deep and intriguing storyline will definitely find themselves hooked to the game in no time. It doesn’t shy away from its narrative-driven genre, and what it lacks in terms of gameplay, it makes up for with an engrossing plot and a fascinating bunch of characters.
Having not watched the Anime in the hopes of not spoiling the game’s content, I’m thoroughly blown at what Steins;Gate does with its narrative. Whilst not all characters were incredibly likable with some characters being very cookie cutter archetypes, it’s well written and translated content makes it one of the most recommendable visual novels to play! Let’s hope the rest of the Science Adventure gets released.
Not surprisingly, this shining example of a visual novel manages to set the bar for others in its genre even after all of these years. With an enthralling storyline, diverse cast of characters, and the ability to actively shape the story’s outcome, Steins;Gate continues to come out on top.
I don’t think there are any noteworthy improvements or flaws with this version, and if you’re a fan who’s already played another port then I can’t really see this being of interest to you. For everyone else, however, I would thoroughly recommend if you’re into visual novels or even just the anime or manga. It’s such a great story and theme, with lovable characters and solid writing.
