A good remaster of a great game. If you're into hacking demons and/or angels to bits, Zelda-style puzzles or both, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition will no doubt satisfy you.

Even playing it my third time through, I still found it absolutely delightful. While its original weak points remain present in this remaster, so to do its strengths shine through. The customizable performance options, coupled with the Switch's portability make this my favorite way to play an excellent game. Bring on Darksiders II and Darksiders III.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition sees a refresher on the famed franchise, which upscales the visuals to look right at home on the PlayStation 4. While the gameplay elements that hindered the previous iteration of the game still haven't been fixed, this is still a great game to own. While fans of the series won't find anything new except a chance to port over their old library to the current generation, newcomers to the series will find this and the Darksiders II remaster a great entry point into the series. This is a brutal hack and slash adventure game, where War finds a range of new ways to rip enemies apart with QTEs, while employing the various abilities learned throughout the game, in his quest to restore order between the balance of Heaven and Hell.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is a decent port overall. There aren't any particularly major issues, though the audio-visual errors might be a little jarring. The boosted frame rate and image quality are well worth the trade-off, especially for fans of the previous console version. The game itself isn't spectacular, but it has some great ideas and solid execution. The presentation is also quite good. While its last gen roots are clearly showing, this game still showcases an impressive atmosphere. The cut-scenes and voice acting are top notch. Action-adventure fans might find a lot to like here.

Aside from the griffin sequence, there's not a lot holding Darksiders: Warmastered Edition down. It remains an excellent heavy metal homage to Zelda games that's satisfying and quite lengthy. I enjoy it more than its sequel, although that's also a great game. The only real downside is that this game is on the Wii U, not the Switch, so it probably won't get the attention it deserves.

In a generation of half-hearted, glitchy remasters, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition stands out as a true labor of love. It's not only the best way to dive back into the world of Darksiders, but also the best starting point for those new to the franchise.

If you're a hardcore fan and wish to catch up on the story of the Darksiders series before the third game comes out, I'd say you can skip the first game entirely and just watch a YouTube video instead. Do, however, pickup Darksiders II: The Deathfinitive Edition, since all gameplay concerns are absolutely addressed in the sequel. Plus, Death as a character is a lot cooler than War.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition is a killer PS5 revisit for anyone who loves retro action-adventure games with attitude. I had a blast with War’s story, the heavy combat, the dungeon-based progression, and the detailed comic-book apocalypse art style that makes the series stand apart. Native 4K rendering, smooth and stable 60fps gameplay, Photo Mode, DualSense support, and Activities support make this the definitive edition of this classic.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition brings War’s first campaign back with direct combat, clever dungeon tools, and a comic-book apocalypse that still has personality. The PS5 version improves the return with 4K rendering, 60 FPS, DualSense support, Activities support, and Photo Mode, though the camera, platforming, and older visual details show the game’s age. It’s a clear fit for newcomers and returning fans who want War’s campaign with a cleaner console upgrade.

Finally officially arriving on current-generation consoles, Darksiders Warmastered Edition is a good action-adventure game. Fighting as the powerful War against the armies of Heaven and Hell on a destroyed Earth provides epic battles and moments. Even if somewhat out of date, the challenges are well-constructed, as are the characters and other elements of the game. A great option for long-time fans or anyone wanting to discover a new, high-quality franchise.

While not the most polished action game nor the deepest adventure game, Darksiders Warmastered Edition remains one of the most unique action-adventure games of its era.

Darksiders is really a wonderful game through and through. The game doesn't have a weak point, or an aspect that left me dissatisfied. If you enjoy the classic 3D Legend of Zelda titles, I definitely think you'd enjoy Darksiders. Between the distinctive art and universe design, the delightfully violent, kinetic combat and the great story, there's just a whole lot here to love.

Darksiders is a fantastic game that successfully merges elements from Zelda and God of War to make a gritty classic all its own.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is bare-bones remaster of a great game that released back in 2010. It looks better, it even runs a little better, but the same issues that plagued the original plague the remaster.

Welcome to heaven. Or hell. Or both, in the new 'Merica. You can bathe in the blood of the poor, or cry for them, or simply hope the numb you are feeling is natural, and not just an escape from the leering doomnado outside your door. Me, I played Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. It seemed fitting. Sure, I'm intensely biased, as I thoroughly enjoyed the first game. Everything you expect is still here - conflicted War, stunningly stylized characters to both maim and befriend, the evil spirit jackass watching your every move, and the creepy dude who sells you things and occasionally pushes the plot. It is just as good as before, frankly. I didn't see any real flaws of note, although the new textures did seem to be stretched a bit tightly over the old models... but maybe it's just me. I'm sure, if this is your first visit to the wastelands of the new American Hellscape, you'll be just as thrilled as I was the first time I experienced this robust story, even if the similarity of the power grabs gives you a bit of a nervous tic as reality continues to unfold in tattered ribbons.

While most of the mechanics persist, there are a few that make a few appearances and then bugger off for the rest of the game. The shadow arenas could have been a persistent theme, and while I’m certainly glad they weren’t, that doesn’t mean I will simply condone dropping a mechanic basically after introducing twice. Making them a bonus investment would have been a good idea. While I wouldn’t give the first Darksiders any sort of critical acclaim, it certainly isn’t fishing bottom of the barrel either. I would definitely consider picking up this switch version if you missed out on it earlier.

Darksiders’ unique graphical style has aged well, but its gameplay and mechanics have not. Other games offer more engaging and thoughtful combat and level designs, making Darksiders: Warmastered Edition a tough sell. Not necessarily worth revisiting, if you have experienced it before.
