PES 2018 improve a lot gameplay, animations and feeling during the game. Despite for the squad licence and the single player experience, still less attractive than the other big football game.

I came into PES 2018 ready to be won over, and converted into a PES fan. Unfotunately, I came away being disappointed.

Overall, what PES 2018 lacks in authenticity, it more than makes up for in gameplay. Bettering its predecessor on the pitch, PES 2018 is another fantastic entry in the series.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 picks up where the last iteration left off but fails to make the same impact. On field improvement mean PES retains top spot as best football game on the market but there's still something lacking

The end-to-end gameplay of Pro Evolution Soccer is a double-edged sword. It's the reason it's so exciting to play – goal fests are, by their very nature – but it also contributes into making a game that feels unrealistic at best. And then there's Konami and its licensing troubles, which seems to further deteriorate each year.

PES 2018 is Konami's classic back at its strongest on PC, and the small changes to the feel of the gameplay have genuine ramifications on the pitch. It might lack the big budget feel of FIFA, most keenly felt in the match atmosphere, commentary and the lack of TV-like production values, but it plays a damn fine game of football.

Not only is Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 the best football game in terms of graphics, it is the best I have experienced in terms of gameplay. The level of detail and player likenesses create a game that comes as close to you'll get to the real thing. There are still a few minor issues with presentation, and perhaps a few more changes could have been made to Master League and Become a Legend, but I'm clutching at straws here. The gameplay is near perfection, the AI and goalkeepers are improved, Konami have added further licenses to their product, and the graphics are amazing. Hopefully the servers are ready for online and with just a few minor presentation improvements to be improved on, PES really has set the bar of what a football game should be.

PES 2018 is a highly refined package, offering plenty of incentive for the existing fanbase and new fans alike, especially through the introduction of three-vs-three and Random Selection mode. The visuals and animations are much improved, with less jarring transitions, more animated players, and a far greater level of detail in the crowds and stadiums. All this raises the general presentation standard significantly, putting it on the same level as FIFA or thereabouts. While the gameplay has mostly changed for the better through a host of minute changes that add up to something more than the sum of their parts, the only shame is that rebalancing always seems to put something else out of whack - in this case the keepers' quite dodgy behaviour, which can ruin the fun. It's very 'two steps forward and one step back,' but still represents a big pragmatic leap forward, since they have thought outside the box about how to attract more football fans. Three-vs-three is a huge success, and there's no doubt it will be responsible for many converts.

PES 2018 is a solid football experience but realism on the pitch can't make up for the lack of added value, general innovation, licenses and design flaws forever. The clock is ticking and PES is evolving too slowly by today standards.

Konami didn't want the Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 to be a great leap forward, or a great evolution for the series. But instead they focused on making the game's strengths even better and this decision totally pays off and PES 2018 is the best in the series so far.

If you are a football fan but you are horrified by the last year's game, you can buy PES 2018 without thinking.

PES 2018 still plays a solid game of soccer, but is unable to carry on the momentum built up with last year's good outing. A few gameplay stumbles let down what is otherwise a largely unchanged experience.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is not just a simple soccer game, it is THE soccer game. The graphics are impressive and realistic, and a great number of teams that you can choose will guarantee many hours of fun, either online or offline. If the lack of license makes some players turn their back on it, it is the perfect and most close to reality gameplay that makes PES 2018 the best soccer game ever created.

All in all, PES 2018 is a very good game. It has less of a wow-factor than the competition, but it scores with realistic gameplay, solid game modes, and a good presentation. PES is not a perfect game and the great gameplay is a bit flawed by the excessive flamboyance of the players, but the overall feel of the title won't make you regret the dollars spent.

To sum up, PES 2018 is divided into 2 sections. The first one, is related to the matches and the gameplay, where you take control of the players and start the game. In this part you'll face a magnificent aspect of a football simulation. On the other hand, the second part, which is out of the field, is where you're supposed to be amused by the modes and cases like this. But weak servers, outdated offline parts and the same old issues about the licenses has caused PES 18, not to reach it's full potential. Even by ignoring the inevitable license problem, the modes being not so amusing at all is an unforgivable matter.

I can't recommend it enough, and I urge everyone to give it a try because it's the kind of title that can provide a lot of fun, even if you are a fan of other similar football sims. And you can't get better praise than that.

All the pieces are there with "Pro Evolution Soccer 2018" but it feels as though many fall a little short of their full potential. "PES" is still a champion on the pitch where it matters most, but the series continues to fight an uphill battle in terms of licensing and feature set.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 retains its crown of offering the best gameplay in a football game this year. The lack of new content is disappointing although the improvements to the gameplay somehow make up for it.

PES 2018 is yet another progressive game in this long-running series that wows us with its changes. The gameplay hasn’t been this fun since PES 2013 and graphics are simply stunning. That said, Konami needs to get more aggressive and competitive with EA Sports and FIFA series and with current pace, it’s just impossible. Maybe it's best for Konami to take a year off and rethink the most fundamental elements of PES.

This year's version of PES have finally managed to offer some fun and smooth football gameplay and challenge FIFA over the best soccer simulation crown. PES 2018 still hugely suffers from lack of licenses for many teams and players, but if you want to experience the fun side of football, PES 2018 is your choice.
