Monster Prom XXL is not a game for everyone, but if you're down for some hardcore monster dating with a penchant for foul-mouthed humor and goofiness, it's incredible. I love the way it takes a visual novel and dating sim and transforms it into a party game. Some rough edges might be present in the interface, but Monster Prom is a riotously good time.
If you and your friends are comfortable with spending some time with crude, rowdy, monster teens, Monster Prom is worth your time and is unexpectedly a great party game.
While initially charming, I found Monster Prom didn't have the right elements to have any staying power for me. The charming characters, the multiplayer design of the game, and how it tries to engage players outside of the game are all great additions to the dating sim genre. However, the disjointed dialogue, repetitive nature of subsequent attempts, humour, and music all drag Monster Prom down a little too much for me.
It may take a few tries to discover how to land a date, but playing Monster Prom is some of the most fun you'll have trying to figure out a game's mechanics.

Monster Prom is fun alone, but even more so in a group, with quirky characters that couldn't be more different from each other to fight over, and it's monstrously hilarious to boot.
Monster Prom had so much potential and so much to offer that I couldn't wait to tear into it. And on a superficial level, it's an interesting experiment that I thought I would love. Unfortunately, just like the monsters you're courting, once you get to know it it's only a great-looking shell with some fairly rotten insides.
Monster Prom is simply hell-a fun. With an amazing art style and a cast of lovable characters, this game has every ingredient to get you hooked to it, if you are a type that feeds on internet culture. Plus, is a very hard dating sim, even for veterans of thousands visual novels.

Monster Prom is ridiculously fun and laugh out loud funny; I've been cackling like Edna Crabapple with almost every panel. I plan to play it a lot more even though I'm done with my review, which is basically the biggest compliment I can give a game these days. Whether you're a fan of dating stimula—er, simulators—or not, I highly recommend it.
It is still most certainly worth giving a go, so long as you're aware of its limitations going in.
It could be far more engaging with these premises, and sometimes the good cards that the game have could be played in a better way.

In the end, Monster Prom's charm stems from its thematic elements. Fantastic interactions, its satirical narrative, and the monster theme offer a unique spin, even if it doesn't deviate all that much from known formulas. But, it does bring a little more to the table, a party for daters who are in it more for the ride than the destination.
Monster Prom is as much a dating sim as Scary Movie is a horror film. It follows the patterns of a normal dating sim and completely flips everything upside down. The beauty of a game like this is that anyone that loves and hates dating sims can find value here.
