Critic Reviews for Space Pirate Trainer

The simplistic set up helps to distill Space Pirate Trainer's essence as a score attack shooter. Later waves are certainly frenetic, but even with powerups, explosions and shields it doesn't result in complete sensory overload, allowing you to concentrate on besting your previous effort. Topping your best scores is addictive stuff, let me tell you! At one point I managed to get the 31st best arcade score in the world. It's dropped and I now linger in the 70s, but I'll get it back. I've nearly finished my training.

If you have always dreamed of replicating a "physical" laser-tag experience in virtual reality, Space Pirate Trainer DX is the right answer.

Space Pirate Trainer remains the most seminal wave shooter in the history of modern VR, a bit like a Space Invaders with a VR headset and room-scale, even on PC without the DX update for Quest. On the other hand, the versus modes of the new version are what the gaming experience lacked and the PvP arenas, well, are not very accessible but incredibly brave when it comes to the potential of virtual reality in gaming.

Space Pirate Trainer is a very high quality arcade-based wave shooter - nothing more, nothing less. If you are interested in pushing your high score up the leaderboards, there is plenty of polished gameplay for you to enjoy. If you are seeking a deeper experience, however, it is probably best to seek elsewhere.

In the end, Space Pirate Trainer may have come a little too late to PSVR. While the platform has a larger install base, the genre has already seen countless entries. Space Pirate Trainer was one of the first and is probably the best and easiest way to get going with VR in a small and satisfying package that works remarkably well. If you get easily hooked on simple-to-learn and tough-to-master high-score games, this is an easy recommendation.

Space Pirate Trainer is an incredibly fun wave-based shooter that will give you quite the work-out dodging all the incoming enemy fire. Leaderboard addicts will have a blast finding the optimal weapon-loadout and improving their run. It's an easy recommended for everyone with a VR set, especially at its low asking price

Space Pirate Trainer is a fast-paced and fun high score chaser but it has a few annoying aspects and is a rather short-lived experience.

Cumbersome, sometimes shallow, but boy, what a free treat
