Yesterday, the final blow was dealt to Highguard. At 11 am PT, the plug was pulled, and its servers were taken offline after something of a disappointing life.
But it's never nice to say goodbye, and that's something a handful of Highguard fans (or developers) are finding out now. Over 15 hours after the game went offline, there are still 25 souls with the game open. Now, the servers aren't working, so they can't be doing much, but they're there.
We're now 15 hours past the shutdown of Highguard. The game always had a mountain to climb following its reception as The Game Awards' "One Last Thing", and sadly, that mountain proved too large.
Just days from launch, player counts stumbled far below sustainable levels, with poor playtesting, a lack of originality, and limited modes cited as reasons for the game's demise. It quickly started to make less money than individual Monster Hunter skins, and the studio laid off most of the team before announcing the game's closure, which took place yesterday.
