GamingTrend's Reviews

Apr 26, 2018

Saturday Morning RPG is an extremely fun and heart-filled adventure, giving a great homage to the 80's. At $9.99 this game is definitely worth playing for the geekdom alone. I would have liked to play through even more adventures, but  I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually get some DLC with more episodes down the road. I hope everyone who plays this game enjoys it as much as I did!

90 / 100 - Spacejacked
Apr 26, 2018

Spacejacked is a wonderful combination of tower defense and fast paced action. The game's hectic nature along with the necessity to plan out your defenses makes for a fun and engaging challenge. It may take some trial and error to find what works best for each player, but that's part of the fun.

80 / 100 - Late Shift
Apr 26, 2018

Late Shift is a technological beauty that shows what full-motion video games can truly achieve. Its slick plot and fast but meaningful pacing proves that the genre has some uncharted territory it can explore in the future.

For a game that deals with this large a scale it often feels small and lifeless outside of the boss fights. It is, though, a visual showpiece that offers a stiff challenge. And while playing it on the go probably won't make this worth a return trip to Ginnungagap, it is definitely a great game to add to your Switch library if you've not checked it out before.

90 / 100 - Skies Of Fury DX
Apr 25, 2018

Skies of Fury DX is a great addition to the aerial battle genre. Based on actual events, it allows players to play a part in a historical battle. There's enough challenges and excitement to make you want to gun down enemy pilots for hours, which I happily did.

95 / 100 - BattleTech
Apr 24, 2018

Harebrained Schemes has transformed the complexity of the pen and paper BattleTech universe into an incredible game that welcomes veteran and rookie pilots alike. BattleTech represents the perfect culmination of all of their previous works, and the team should be proud of how well it all came together.

My First Pet Stuff adds basically a new critter, some hair and clothes items, and items that require Cats and Dogs. It is DLC for DLC and feels like this all could have been part of that expansion instead of its own stand alone product. I am disappointed in the lack of items, the reskins of the critters, but most importantly how they thought doing a pack that requires another expansion was a good idea. It is not worth your time, and in my opinion we should not support a practice like this and hopefully let them get back to making great packs like they were.

80 / 100 - Suicide Guy
Apr 17, 2018

In the end, Suicide Guy is a surprisingly goofy romp through the dreams of a typical slob. The story isn't the deepest, but it gets points for subverting expectations and not being a cliche. The variety of level designs and clever methods of completion are refreshing. It provides a fun little challenge without becoming a chore.

The Way Remastered is a fun and challenging puzzle platformer. The world is wonderfully crafted and is a sight to behold. The game closing errors and game breaking bug are annoying and ruin the fun. Relying only on autosave can cause problems, as I learned the hard way. Hopefully the planned patch can fix these issues.

70 / 100 - Puzzle Puppers
Apr 16, 2018

It's not going to set the gaming world on fire, but Puzzle Puppers is a nice little game to work your grey matter on the Switch. It helps that its puppies are adorable.

I'm going to do something I don't normally do, and score the game based on what's here, but also what's possible. With mods, this game is gorgeous, and you can trick out just about any aspect of the experience, though the menus and overall object interaction is still very much stuck in the pancake world. Still, there's nothing quite like standing your ground and taking the fight to the enemy. In VR, I am the Dragonborn, and that's what virtual Skyrim is all about.

85 / 100 - MLB 18: The Show
Apr 16, 2018

MLB The Show 18 is another fantastic baseball experience, and a game where high quality has become routine. The gameplay is the same, for the most part, but the game's modes have all been vastly updated with improvements, additions, and overhauls to the way progression through each mode is accomplished. These improvements are welcome additions to a game that flirts with stagnation in spite of its perennial brilliance.

Ash of Gods is an ambitious game of massive proportions. Beautiful artwork, smooth animations, and a stunning soundtrack set the tone for this melancholy tale. The setting and lore can be overwhelming, especially during the first playthrough, but it's sure to capture fans of epic fantasy seeking to lose themselves in a huge world full of secrets, curses, and curious characters.

The Bethesda Pack for Pinball FX3 adds another set of three great pinball tables to the already vast lineup. The tables are creatively designed and the similarities to their respective games is amazing. The methods of completing missions can be complicated, but at the same time, that adds to the depth. Taking the time to explore all three worlds is definitely worth it.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a mish-mash of a game that combines tactical RPG battles with a visual novel and world building elements to create a fairly new experience. There is a lot of fun lines in the dialogue and the game provides an urgent, multifaceted challenge, but is poorly paced and plagued with loading screens that take away from the polish and joy that could have been.

100 / 100 - God of War
Apr 12, 2018

It's very rare that a game grabs me this completely, but God of War is, without a doubt, an early contender for Game of the Year. It's flawless in its execution, and the new benchmark for action titles. Well done, Santa Monica Studios, and thanks for taking us on this entirely new adventure.

While levels may feel stale later on and combat could be better, The Adventure Pals is still a solid platformer with tight controls and an incredibly imaginative and humorous world that is more than worth checking out for its price.

65 / 100 - Dead In Vinland

95 / 100 - Burly Men At Sea
Apr 11, 2018

Burly Men at Sea is a lesson in simple elegance and whimsical storytelling. Almost more of an experience than a game, it's intended to be enjoyed, soaked in, rather than beaten. This short yet fantastic tittle is a fantastic addition to the Switch lineup, and a must-play for everyone's inner child.

15 / 100 - Extinction
Apr 10, 2018

I don't enjoy writing about bad games. I understand making games is incredibly difficult, and I'm not claiming I know how to do it. But this game should not have been released. Someone, somewhere along the line, should have made the call to cancel this game. There is nothing to be gained from playing Extinction. Don't bother at all.
