Ultratron is a perfectly fine twin stick shooter and it is certainly worth playing. Sadly, it is too flashy for its own good and this creates problems that are uniquely its own. If these problems weren't there, this could have been my favorite shoot'em up in a while. It is still really good, but when it becomes jarring, Ultratron just really needs to calm down a bit.
The Wii U version of Nihilumbra isn't the game's first picnic on a console, but it never really got the publicity it deserved. If you've passed it up previously, don't sleep on this game now that it's on the Wii U, just have some kittens handy to provide a dose of happiness afterward.
Swords & Soldiers II is a follow-up that is exciting for lovers of the original. With three factions containing fresh new faces, this game delivers at being fun solo or with your pals. While the single-player campaign could have longer and the game really deserves online multiplayer, there are still good times to be had for all. You will be in awe with the game's various mechanics and just how well this adventure looks.
200cc performs shockingly well online, although I feel like I'm having more dropped games overall than I had prior to the 2nd DLC wave. I will say that racing online in 200cc makes me feel a little better about myself as I watch other human players go through the exact same struggles I am. This second DLC pack is great—better than the first—and I highly recommend it.
Because it was a 2012 DS game, the first release of Devil Survivor 2 flew under the radar of a lot of strategy RPG players. If you're one of those, or want something that can take up a lot of time, then Record Breaker should be on your radar.
It's a fun, old-school game that brings back fun memories of similar NES games. Disabling Miiverse screenshots is pretty lame, and sometimes the game's difficulty is a bit much, but those are just minor problems. Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is another fun retro-inspired title that's definitely worth a look if you're looking for a challenging platformer on the eShop.
Affordable Space Adventures is a brilliant ride from beginning to end. However, the game can understandably be overwhelming for the solo player and it can cause a lot of stress while playing through the game. With a team, though, you can remain calm and discuss your options on what to do next.
There is no shortage of appeal to this game for those who can appreciate a classic dungeon crawler. Unfortunately for non-fans, there isn't much else on the table.
The only real downside to Boxboy is that there are so many ideas that I wish some of them were expanded upon more. Each new mechanic really only gets about a half-dozen levels to shine, and each one is so rich that they might even be able to support their own game. Because of that onslaught of fresh ideas, Boxboy never gets boring, which makes it a fun experience for your 3DS.
Extensive in-game content and its new ideas attached to series' staples give us an accomplished beginning to a new name. The game does turn out to be a somewhat light on top, commanding little attention at all in its first month, but with eventually engaging gameplay and overall appeal, it will undoubtedly hook players with its charm in due time. Marvelous hasn't lost their spark for creating a farming game worth picking up, and for that, we're grateful.
Trine: Enchanted Edition is a good game, well made and competent, but not necessarily for me. I can appreciate what it has accomplished, but its slow, methodical brand of puzzle platforming and the "meh" combat leave me wanting.
But everything is something you might want to do in this game, as it is all so much fun to discover. Combat manages to stay fresh over the 50-60 minimum hours required to finish the story, and the story is great at carrying you through any lulls. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D might not be the best version of this modern-day classic, but it's a satisfactory way to play one of the boldest, biggest games in recent memory.
This is a tremendous game that, if you have any affinity for aspects of Zelda II and Metroid games, is something you should be getting as soon as possible.
If you're looking for a Mario Party game to play, you're likely better off trying to find Mario Party 9, as that 2012 release features more boards and mini-games than Mario Party 10. The Wii U debut of the series is a big disappointment, with little reason to throw too many celebratory Mario parties to play it.
OlliOlli is an addictive gem of a game. Beneath the simple aesthetic and controls lies a deceptively challenging and complex skateboarding game. It's great for short sessions, but be warned that it's also easy to accidentally sink a few hours into it while trying to achieve the perfect run.
M., except for the steep difficulty curve. It's definitely worth a try, but the immense challenge made it far less enjoyable for me.
I see myself getting a ton of mileage out the Workshop and Community options, which should keep me engaged for quite a while longer. If you are novice at puzzlers, Tipping Stars might be the game for you. Veterans will have to give this one a hard look, as it might only please them in the latter half of the journey.
In the end, Rainbow Curse is a good game that provides plenty of content for both single players and a group of friends. I'm annoyed by the length of some stages, however, and it's a real shame that the player controlling Kirby cannot have the same viewing experience that the others players have. Thankfully, the core gameplay remains very enjoyable and I can still recommend it—but you should know what you're getting into.
If you haven't played Assault Horizon Legacy and you have a New 3DS, this is the version to get. The additions aren't major, but this version is the definitive one, as long as you own a New 3DS. If you don't own Nintendo's shiny new handheld or played the 2012 edition, hold off because there isn't anything new for you here.
For newcomers, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the ideal starting place, with more accessible combat than ever, a vastly improved single-player experience, and some endlessly gentle tutorials. For veterans, the game's less difficult introduction may prove less enjoyable at the outset, but some extremely fresh evolutionary steps ensure that those feelings are fleeting at best. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a great experience through and through – it just might take a little while to see that.
