9 / 10.0 - Year Walk
Sep 16, 2015

This game masterfully balances simplicity and challenge, engaging the Wii U in a way that will make it rewarding even if you've already played on another device. The utter stillness of the environment keeps you on edge as the macabre creatures of yore add a dose of discomfort or terror when you least expect it.

7 / 10.0 - The Swindle
Sep 16, 2015

Overall, I enjoyed my time with The Swindle. While the random levels were a point of frustration, and the occasional frame rate drops maddening, the gameplay is solid and provides players with an interesting challenge in a wonderful setting. If you can get past its brutal challenge, you'll find a rewarding experience, even if it can be an exhausting one.

The game manages to be fresh throughout the entire experience, and avoids the pitfalls of becoming repetitive at every turn. Q.U.B.E. is a must play for puzzle enthusiasts, and for anyone who is looking for a fun challenge.

It's also worth noting that this is the second piece of software that's exclusive to the New 3DS, so if you're itching to get some use out of the thing, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is your only other option after Xenoblade.

The limitations might be bothersome, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter because crafting your very own Mario levels makes for an incredible feeling, especially with how easy-to-use the interface is. Super Mario Maker is a supreme early leap into the world of game-making software for Nintendo, and I want to see them make more fascinating games like this, even if I can't place a Charging Chuck on screen.

3.5 / 10.0 - Devil's Third
Aug 26, 2015

With just five hours on the counter, barely anything gets time to truly sink in. Add to this the technical issues and the inconsistencies of the presentation and you have a game that could have benefited from a bit more playtesting.

9 / 10.0 - Runbow
Aug 26, 2015

Runbow is a top-shelf Wii U eShop game, bringing a wide selection of modes and options that can all be played with a stupid amount of players at once. It's frantic and insane, but in the best way possible. It works best as a party game, but even those just looking for a fun, difficult platformer should get ready to Runbow.

8 / 10.0 - The Bridge
Aug 21, 2015

While it lacks in certain places when it comes to presentation, the ambiance makes up for it. The Bridge is different than most puzzlers on the Wii U eShop, but that, along with its emphasis on gameplay, is what makes it stand out the most.

It is obvious that there was care put in to this remaster. Fans of the original title should absolutely experience this version, as well as all fans of 3D platformers.

8 / 10.0 - Xeodrifter
Aug 4, 2015

I highly recommend Xeodrifter no matter what system you get it on—and by getting it on one, you'll automatically have it on both. It's a win-win!

This is an incredible game, and one of my favorite on the 3DS. You should at least play the demo. If it hooks you, the full version is well worth your time.

If I had written the review after I had cleared Day 1, I would have been ready to give Badlands some awards. The frustration of the later levels and all the level skipping that I did to see if it would improve really left a sour taste in my mouth. There's a really good game here, just know your frustration point and be ready to jump out when it gets there.

5 / 10.0 - Roving Rogue
Jul 6, 2015

There is potential in Roving Rogue with its unique narrative presentation and teleporting platforming ideas, but it's squandered by a middling execution. With a glut of superior platformers out there, this is a Wii U eShop game worth passing over.

7 / 10.0 - Never Alone
Jul 1, 2015

Despite the game's AI issues, Never Alone is definitely worth playing—maybe with another person. It's a very short game and can be finished in two or three sessions. But it's the educational aspect that I appreciated most, and I imagine you will, too.

6.5 / 10.0 - Shiftlings
Jun 29, 2015

Shiftlings is a solid yet unspectacular first effort from a rookie developer, though I do hope it's not the last we see from Sierra. If you can put aside the obsession with finding everything in a level, there's a pretty fun game here – just be ready to fiddle with the sound options.

If you've played a Dr. Mario game, you're not missing a bunch here. But regardless, it's a nice addition to the series.

Art Academy: Atelier is a great entry in the franchise. With 30 new lessons and some pretty powerful tools, painters of all skill levels will have a good time. While the sharing functions really could have been expanded, the social features really make up for it and allow you to share the fun with the world. Add to that some great visuals and music, you have the best way to relax and unwind on the Wii U.

The world of Don't Starve is an intriguing one. The haunting graphics and music create a grim, Burton-esque atmosphere that wraps around the whole package rather nicely. The gameplay is fun and kept me interested for days. Don't Starve doesn't hold your hand, and it can be difficult, but if you can look past that, this game is one of the most unique experiences on the Wii U. Just be sure to light a fire at night. They come rather quickly in the dark…

9 / 10.0 - Splatoon
May 31, 2015

Overall, Splatoon makes for an amazing online game, likely the most engaging online experience Nintendo has ever made. The multiplayer, regardless of its lack of voice chat or randomized parties, is sublime, successfully making a shooter that is easy to hop into but tough to master. The single-player might be short and linear, but it's a wonderful change of pace from the frenzy of online play.

4.5 / 10.0 - Funk of Titans
May 26, 2015

Funk of Titans is a game that kept my interest for a while, but ultimately it fails to deliver much beyond a few hours of play. The game is easy to play and get into, but there's not much variation in gameplay.
