Modern Warfare 4 isn't perfect, but it's still a fairly cohesive Call of Duty package. Multiplayer is just more multiplayer, which did let me down, but it's bolstered by a thoroughly entertaining campaign and a surprisingly deep extraction offering with DMZ. While it may be another round in the Call of Duty cycle and history may repeat itself, for now, we're so back.
Silver Pines is a spectacular take on the metroidvania genre, weaving survival horror, Lynchian mystery, and some tantalising visuals into one big atmospheric thriller. There's inspiration from Silent Hill and Alan Wake, but amidst all the influence, Silver Pines manages to be its own unique thing and one of the biggest surprises of 2026.
S-GAME has been building to Phantom Blade Zero for almost a decade, and its craft has spawned one of the PS5's very best action games. An intense and fast-paced combat system is the star, with so much variety backing it and incredible enemies to test it. Fun exploration, beautiful visuals, and a unique style then help it reach the heights of the genre's elite, as Phantom Blade Zero deserves to hang with the best of the best.
Square Enix has hit on something surprisingly special with Final Fantasy Resonance. While its story and characters struggle to break away from being all too predictable at times, its old-school, turn-based gameplay is fantastic.
Stupid Never Dies is an acquired taste, but its lurid aesthetic and unhinged storytelling at least gives it a bit of personality in a crowded market.As a roguelite, it's got a good power curve and enough mechanics to keep you coming back, although sometimes its systems and narrative can get in the way of letting you just play the game.It's difficult to stand out in this genre these days, but GPTRACK50 has done enough here to deliver an experience that feels fresh – despite its underlying similarities to other titles in the genre.
The emotional characters and story in Tales of Eternia still stand up to the test of time, and shine better than ever thanks to the revamped localisation in this remaster.And while the combat isn't quite able to keep up, the slew of new accessibility features do a lot of heavy lifting to make it more palatable for the modern age.If you go into Tales of Eternia Remastered with an open mind, ready to appreciate its nostalgic value, then there's a lot to love about this faithful update of the classic PlayStation RPG.
Toy Story: Retro Roundup is filled with tons of great modern-day features and extras that make it a great choice for anyone who played these games in the past and wants a burst of nostalgia.
Sadly, cut scenes remain muddy, but it’s impressive how good this already was. Toy Story 3 was great in 2010, and it’s still a ton of fun in 2026.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse gets a lot of stuff right, but in a world where Metroidvanias are a dime a dozen, it doesn't do quite enough to really stand apart.Decent combat gets the job done, while level design and some lovely art and animation are areas where the game really shines. The game can feel a little unresponsive, leading to some frustrating deaths.It's ultimately a good Metroidvania and a valiant effort to resuscitate Castlevania, but there's little new to see for anyone who's been keeping up with the genre over the last decade.
Planet Zoo 2 is a great addition to the 'Planet' franchise and a must-have for people who love creative management games.The game offers the extraordinary level of customisation I've come to expect from Frontier, and the large number of additions over its predecessor offer plenty to both existing fans and new players alike.The game will no doubt continue to grow over the next few years with updates and DLC, but the base experience alone offers a sturdy foundation to build from.
Valor Mortis is a worthy addition to the Soulslike genre, its first-person perspective and Napoleonic setting making it stand out from a sea of samey titles. With strong combat and impressive level design, its well worth your time and investment, especially considering the reduced pricepoint.While it may stumble in places and starts stronger than it finishes, Valor Mortis should be high on the list of anyone in the market for a grimdark action game.
Clive Barker's Hellraiser Revival is a frustrating experience, as for every one thing it does really well, it does two things that will annoy the life out of you. Part of me was willing to see past the jank, as you have a pretty niche horror title coming to life in a new medium, and I certainly respect it for giving it a go.However, too often its design choices would irritate me, hold me back from progressing, or just straight up make me not want to play. While it's got little sparks of something special in there, Hellraiser: Revival is more pain than pleasure.
I don't think a game has ever divided my brain in two like Order of the Sinking Star. Its unique structure and the way it blends together so many mechanics is great, the individual puzzles are cleverly and thoughtfully designed, and it's all delivered with plenty of polish.However, in making such a vast game, I think it runs out of steam before it gets the chance to really start to flex. That, combined with uninteresting dialogue and no real compelling hook (other than the promise of hundreds more puzzles), makes it harder to recommend.
Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is often Capcom's open world RPG at its absolute peak. It's one hell of a meaty expansion, delivering a surprisingly involved story, joyous exploration, and deeply compelling combat. A transformative DLC.
Overall, if you've never played the series, Kingdom Hearts Collection I~III is great value, but for those of you who've already sunk an absurd amount of time into Sora's Disney-filled adventures, it's harder to recommend.
Dune: Awakening doesn't do anything that other survival games haven't already. You've got so much to pick from these days, including Valheim and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, both of which just dropped on PS5 this year.However, if you're into Frank Herbert's sci-fi universe, Dune: Awakening has the edge. Every craftable item feels informed by the lore, delivering a survival experience that, despite its complexity, just makes sense.With multiplayer and the new single-player modes to choose from, you can craft this experience to fit your playstyle. There's never been a better time to play Dune: Awakening.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a thoughtfully designed triumph. The excellent handling and eye-popping presentation would be enough to recommend the game alone, but I also love its buildcrafting aspects and roguelite campaign.With a breathtaking sense of speed and planets that demand you think differently about your approach, this is one of the better racing games available on the PS5.I think the release could be a little quicker at getting you behind the wheel, and of course more planets would always be appreciated. But minor nitpicks aside, I really can't recommend this highly enough.
Echoes of Sekigahara isn't the barnstorming, endgame expansion that you may be expecting - but it is another emotionally-charged and enjoyable chapter in Atsu's story. But what really sells this re-release is Most Wanted; the new combat-focused roguelike mode is an absolute treat for anyone who likes to cross swords in Sucker Punch's samurai epic.Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition earns an easy recommendation if you're yet to dip into the base game, but even if you're coming back for more, there's enough reason here to rejoin Atsu on her blood-soaked journey.
End of Abyss is a moody and cinematic metroidvania with a tantalisingly dark sci-fi world, tactile twin-sticks combat, and a scintillating brain-teaser of a map. It's brutally hands-off at times, but it makes the moments when you figure it all out all the more satisfying. Some bugs do taint the experience a little, but End of Abyss is a gorgeous horror-tinged must for metroidvania fans.
I think revisiting an old Dynasty Warriors title like this is sure to satisfy the nostalgic cravings of most fans — but even with the modern additions, this deliberately old-school action game can feel like a slog at times.
