GameSpew's Reviews
The lack of dialogue and narration is a good connotation of how words simply do not do feelings justice. It allows us to be swallowed up by the emotions of what we are seeing without having to process words
The game's major problem though is just how dreary it all is in terms of presentation
It's simple and repetitive, sure, but it's also hugely enjoyable and grossly addictive
Unlike the brutal Saxon forces, Cross of the Dutchman will not set the world on fire
Much of the late game still feels like a needlessly punishing grind as it embraces artificial difficulty before fun
The combat scenarios are where the game really shines… each skirmish will feel like a grand scene from Gladiator with some turn-based RPG skills thrown into the mix
If Rayman Origins and Broken Age had a baby this is what I would expect it to look like… you know… if it also got slightly mutated and had Rayman questioning whether he was the father
I may play it on mute and get griped up at the controls, but Cute Things Dying Violently is just a wonderful little gem
One of the only complaints this game has experienced from countless players is its length. If you're familiar with the controls, you could easily complete the game in just over an hour
There are no 'reused assets' here; everything is unique, and because of that, the game never feels repetitive and there's always something new waiting around the corner
I Am Bread includes clever touches of story and world-building that add an intriguing context to keep things fresh
If you do need to buy any cars for an event, buying them from an event entry screen automatically tunes them up to the required performance level. Whilst some may like this streamlining, I found it detracted from the game
I Can't Escape: Darkness does play with your anxieties and creates a sense of claustrophobia even though you are perfectly safe in your living room, bedroom or study
The aesthetics of CounterSpy are probably what had me hooked. It uses simple shapes, pasted with a bold colour palette, to create a really simple and yet satisfying art style
The campaign mode is a bad Tom Clancy novel with voice acting that ranges from 'Generic gruff army fella' to 'Is that blood coming out my ears?'
This game is just beautiful. Dripping with atmosphere and lit wonderfully, there were honestly moments where I just stayed in cover to look around at my surroundings
The simple and easy to grasp control system of the game made for smooth gameplay
The jumping system is flawed, and considering you are required to jump throughout the game, it becomes difficult to truly enjoy it
You'll soon find that the inventory becomes a chore as you have to juggle items around and leave valuable resources on the ground
No amount of pretty can make up for the repetition of dying for the twentieth time
