Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle could have reached something with its interesting idea of playing a story with different characters and their own perspectives but the combats quickly become repetitive and underperforming. While the Arcade and Score Attack modes are challenging, the audiovisual component seriously needs a brush up and the game just doesn't perform the way it should.

While Astro Bears Party doesn't set a very high threshold for itself, it's only reasonable to expect a bit more. Unfortunately, other than a few fun minutes on multiplayer, there's not much more that Astrobears' lack of content and overall feeling of emptiness can offer.

Caveman Warriors may have its positive aspects, such as a cast of characters with a relatively good design and a certain variety but the game falls short of becoming a truly interesting 2D platformer. Its controls definitely need more tuning and overall, it just feels like the problems of past games have not been truly solved, which only makes this experience more frustrating than it should be.

4 / 10 - Sonic Forces
Nov 18, 2017

Sonic Forces was supposed to carry the baton from its predecessor but instead it dropped embarrassingly and doesn't know what to do with it anymore. Despite a good technical performance regarding the game's fluidity, Sonic Forces features short, linear and unimaginative levels and has less gameplay mechanics than other 3D Sonic games. To top it all, its controls can be unpredictable and it delivers what is probably the worst soundtrack of all the main Sonic games. Sonic Forces had a simple job to do but it couldn't keep the level set by its predecessor.

If the idea of joining a racing game with a rhythm game seems good, Flight of Light doesn't quite put it into practice successfully. Due to a gameplay that requires nearly no effort whatsoever to succeed when playing solo, a completely lackluster audiovisual environment and a price tag that is too high for what is being offered here, Flight of Light will disappoint anyone with high expectations about a racing & rhythm crossover.

4 / 10 - Refunct
Jun 15, 2019

While the idea is laudable and worthy of attention, Refunct does very little to go beyond something superficial and short-lived. It's clear that there was potential to make this a more ambitious game, so what Refunct proposes feels like a big disappointment.

Snow Moto Racing Freedom is unique but not breathtaking. While it's positive to have a game on the Nintendo Switch that stands alone in its genre, the technical issues and unrefined gameplay that affect Snow Moto Racing Freedom make it very difficult to recommend.

4 / 10 - Plantera
Mar 4, 2017

Plantera may be the only game of the clicker genre to be available for Nintendo systems but that does not excuse it from its overall repetitiveness, performance problems and interface issues that make this game difficult to play and less involving and fun than it could be, had it been developed with more practical considerations in mind.

What Mini Golf Resort has in terms of content lacks in terms of quality. Despite an abundance of courses, holes and items, the gameplay is simply not a match to the amount of content provided and the game's overall poor performance in the audiovisual front, along with some camera flaws and unresponsive interface, make this a difficult experience that requires a lot of improvement before it can be recommended.

Aqua Moto Racing Utopia doesn't need to be a groundbreaking game to stand out, given the lack of similar games in the Nintendo Switch catalog. Yet, despite some welcome variety of vehicles and racing tracks, it's clear that this game is not up to the challenge. Its controls need to be reworked, the AI is not on a proper challenging level and it's clear from the outset that this was developed for mobile devices.

Blasting Agent makes sense in its original format and environment but when converting it to the Wii U, the result is too problematic - not just due to its technical issues and unstable framerate but especially due to incoherent level design and the overall feeling that this conversion adds nothing to what already existed.

Wheels of Aurelia presents a captivating premise and its dialogues are nothing short of interesting. Unfortunately the game's execution does not allow it to become a fully enjoyable hybrid between a visual novel and driving simulator and the dialogue's mechanics often disappoint, which along with an unpolished visual component makes this an unfulfilled promise.

Ambition of the Slimes could have been a more fun, dynamic and overall compelling strategy RPG were it not for its flaws and ill-conceived organization, which will result in very frustrating and repetitive combats and long moments of plain annoyance at how the game puts the player in combat with a very unforgiving system and difficult interaction.

4 / 10 - Bit Dungeon+
May 13, 2018

Bit Dungeon+ features some nostalgia-inducing visuals and some fun combats in its dungeon crawler meets roguelike approach. It doesn't quite succeed on its other components and turns out to be way too simplistic for its own good. Due to way too frequent glitches, a skills system that doesn't make much sense and a low-quality soundtrack, Bit Dungeon+ turns out to be a low par performer that could have turned out much better.

Sweetest Thing is clearly a game designed for the mobile market which unfortunately did not receive a proper conversion treatment when ported to the Wii U. As such, there are several gameplay aspects which, as adequate as they may be for a mobile system, just do not fit in with the Wii U, beyond its short lifespan and repetitive nature.

Riddled with technical issues that need improvement and with too long loading times, Paranautical Activity ends up being a difficult experience to play and it requires a revision from top to bottom until it can be considered as a competent game.

4 / 10 - Sssnakes
Jun 13, 2016

Sssnakes tries to bring back the experience of the game that was popularized sixteen years ago in Nokia mobile phones and while the intention is laudable, its execution and implementation end up falling very short of what's expected. Unresponsive controls and an exaggerated difficulty level, along with a sub-par presentation and a lack of content trump over a low price tag and the good ideas introduced in some of the levels.

Bringing Langrisser out of Japan after 25 years is worthy of praise but unfortunately it's the only thing worth praising about Langrisser Re: Incarnation Tensei. Its gameplay mechanics force the player to follow a pre-set order to move the characters, rather than allowing for a more dynamic choice, its visual environment needs a near-complete overhaul and its chapters are simply not motivating to move forward.

Epic Dumpster Bear is competent at providing a hilarious, long-lasting and varied platforming experience that doesn't take itself too seriously. Beyond that, it's a rather standard game that doesn't rely on anything else, certainly not on its simple visual and audio atmosphere. While players looking for a funny platformer will be entertained, those who crave a more in depth and technically gratifying experience will look elsewhere.

The Grumpy Reaper is based on an interesting and original concept which is severely ruined by the way the game was executed.
