The Games Machine's Reviews

Have a Nice Death is a beautiful example of rogue-lite. Fast, beautiful to look at and fun to play with. Furthermore, with his dark humour, he touches on delicate issues such as crunch, burnout and the problems of a society focused too much on work and little on the person. Have a Nice Death is a must-have for both those looking for a challenge and for those who want something light to play in their breaks and want to enjoy some nice animation.

8 / 10.0 - WWE 2K23
Mar 21, 2023

WWE 2K23 builds on the excellent foundation laid with the last edition of the game and moves forward a small step. The new features are limited, but they go a long way toward filling the gaps in WWE 2K22, for example with a significantly larger roster (nearly 200 wrestlers in total). The show stealer is undoubtedly the Showcase mode focused on John Cena and his (rare) defeats The experience overall is good, but the feeling is that little has been done to offer anything really new, merely tweaking the winning product of 22.. Like WWE's TV shows, 2K wants to pleasure to everybody, but that's simply non possible.

The Light Brigade is undoubtedly one of the best exponents of the roguelite genre on PS5, a challenging game that returns a great deal of satisfaction thanks to a credible and satisfying gunplay. The sense of progression and atmosphere do the rest, packing a must-play title for all SONY headset owners.

A polished remake in every respect. Capcom has done an incredible job of expanding, enhancing, and modernizing a great classic, and the mission has been nailed in full ... minus a few marginal flaws

After The Witch Queen, Lightfall is a step back for Destiny 2, both story-wise and in terms of its gameplay mechanics.

The crossover of my dreams is made exactly like Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, an expansion that embellishes the formula of the base game by incorporating a massive dose of references and content taken from one of the most beloved videogame sagas of all time.

Bayonetta Origins is different from all previous chapters in the PlatinumGames saga, but it tells a fascinating story and offers gameplay that in its simplicity manages to engage the player.

8 / 10.0 - The Last Spell
Mar 9, 2023

The Last Spell combines RPG, Tower Defense, and City Builder genres, with the extermination of numerous hordes as seen in They Are Billions, managing combat with the beloved turn-based system. The problem is precisly here: each run is a complex and slow chess match that can last a very long time, so those expecting quick sessions may be disappointed.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure is a well-written and content-rich RPG that pays the discount of a technical profile that is anything but up to date. An unmissable appointment for enthusiasts, but perhaps we should advise newbies to start from the previous chapter.

8.1 / 10.0 - Elderand
Mar 7, 2023

Elderand is a successful metroidvania take which adds nothing to the genre, but enhances what we are used to see in these games. The only drawback is a lack of action in the first minutes, but then the game starts to get interesting.

7.5 / 10.0 - Gomorrah
Mar 7, 2023

34BigThings visual novel is a very interesting experiment, especially with that budget price and because of the excellent writing that succeeds in offering a more informed approach to the organized crime narrative. However the game struggles to convey the weight of choices and activity: this is a less influential element, but it risks depowering at least some of the impact of the narrative.

The coin operated "classic which has never been" comes back to life thanks to one of the most visionary and iconic game designers of the 80s. And it's gorgeous.

6.8 / 10.0 - Blood Bowl 3
Mar 6, 2023

Blood Bowl is a beautiful game and Cyanide replicates it in every detail in its latest videogame version. Too bad the single player is ruined by terrible AI and multiplayer is plagued by incomprehensible restrictions. At least developers seem to be addressing the hottest topics raised by the community.

Wo Long is a well-packaged, fun and satisfying soulslike in execution, however there is a general laziness, a lack of novelty together with assets and skins taken from Nioh, together with a game balance that manages to work only in the final stages.

8.4 / 10.0 - Scars Above
Feb 28, 2023

Scars Above is an excellent TPS with a plot that plays a leading role without stealing the show to the action. Due to a wave of alien monsters or some environmental trap and the above-average difficult, Kate Ward's every step is likely to be her last. Character growth is not as important, but anyway it remains a game that entices us to progress just to find out what new surprises are awaiting.

void* tRrLM2(); ///Void Terrarium 2 with a well-designed dungeon crawler section could have been a great game. Unfortunately, the roguelike is far too simple and the new features added to the first chapter are really few, and mostly concentrated in crafting, making the gap with the rest of the game even clearer: you will really have to love Toriko like a daughter in order not to give too much weight to the shortcomings of everything that is not found inside the Terrarium.

A return to the past (in every sense) for Kirby, who brings back his old adventure for Nintendo Wii by adding to the original an updated audio / video sector, unpublished mini-games, an additional adventure brand new and much more. An unmissable "package" for fans of the character and for those looking for a platformer pure and simple... maybe even too much.

8.8 / 10.0 - Returnal
Feb 21, 2023

Returnal might not be the mind-bending masterpiece that I was, perhaps mistakenly, expecting after the praise I'd heard from friends and colleagues, but it's still an excellent roguelike with clean gameplay and a beautiful presentation. Word of warning though: the lenght of each run combined with the difficulty might make it frustrating for some, and graphical optimization relies heavily on the use of supersampling technologies.

7.8 / 10.0 - Atomic Heart
Feb 20, 2023

Atomic Heart suffers from that flavor of "already seen" that ends up a bit 'to distort the workmanship, an important element that could affect the experience of anyone, precisely because of the inability to create empathy with characters lived, in the end, almost as extras. A set of clichés that, however, does not penalize the success of the work in its entirety. The show staged by Mundfish has all the credentials to set good starting points, which in the post-launch could find more sense. We'll see: the potential of the setting is more than those actually exploited.

If you consider the Final Fantasy soundtrack worthy of being counted among the heritages of humanity, then Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is the music game for you. Rich in tracks and truly suitable for everyone, with a very well-calibrated level of difficulty. Too bad they haven't modernised the aesthetic, distinctive but undeniably little more than functional.
