Disliked - Broken Pipe
Mar 24, 2022

Broken Pipe is fine if you don’t want a challenge from a puzzle game. However, as a player who likes to be challenged and enjoys discovering the solution to a puzzle Broken Pipe offered none of that for me. The frame rate shudders are interfering with the gameplay as well, and the mini games fill up the game, but I’m afraid they don’t really fit well into the whole game. Although the eShop price for the game isn’t high, I honestly don’t think it is worth the $5/£3.59 price tag. This only leaves me to tell you that my score for Broken Pipe is…

Overall, The Hundred Year Kingdom was just kind of boring to me. I liked the look and the idea, but it didn’t feel like any of the decisions I was making actually mattered. There wasn’t a whole lot to do except look at the cute anime girls. I didn’t really get the whole idea of the game. Perhaps I didn’t play enough of the game to get to the fun part, but in my humble opinion, games should lead with the fun part.

Sadly, the story of Entwined: The Perfect Murder feels rushed and the characters are bland. And although there are some unique puzzles, they are rehashed too often. This game is only worth picking up if you really, really love HOG games. Otherwise, there are better point-and-click adventure games out there.

Disliked - Hidden Office
Nov 25, 2021

Hidden Office isn’t a terrible game but there are many, many other Hidden Object type games out there that are much more fun to play. It took me around two hours in one sitting to complete the game, so the price point of the game being sold at $4.99, £3.99, € 3,99 is a little expensive for what you get. There are many hidden object games on Steam that are less expensive and more enjoyable.

You may have gathered by now if you have made it this far in the review that Reminiscence in the Night isn’t going to get a high score from me. Unfortunately, as I’ve explained, with the game so short I really did not gel with the main character at all. If I had spent £5\$5 for the game in the eShop and it finished so soon I’d be unhappy about that. It’s certainly not value for money at all. This leaves me only one thing to say…

Disliked - Lake
Sep 9, 2021

I had a very hard time getting anywhere near the end of this game. It was so slow; it would have been better off as a real visual novel instead of making the player do long, boring hours of forced labour. Delivering real mail would be a lot more interesting. The delivery mini-game padding in this game makes it less likely that visual novel fans will love this game, and the repetitive nature of Lake will ensure that adventure game lovers will also not really dig this title. I’m not entirely sure who the target audience for this game is, but I feel like it misses the mark completely.

Disliked - Starscaper
Jun 23, 2021

StarScraper in my opinion needs more work before it is worthy of the $19.99 price tag it has. I do think that some more development of the game will improve it and maybe added some scenarios would help too. The game currently feels unfinished and the camera likes to float off into the clouds. At it is now I can’t recommend StarScraper, and the price tag just isn’t justified.

Regina & Mac World is not a good game. Awful art design, terrible controls and generic design make this 2D platformer near impossible to recommend to anyone. This game was unpleasant to play in every aspect. Unless extensive patches are done later down the road I would avoid this at all costs.

Disliked - A Day Without Me
Mar 23, 2021

A Day Without Me is a weird game where you stumble around clueless with little idea of what’s happening or has happened. The issue I had with the joy-cons continually disconnecting did not help in the least or lead to an enjoyable gaming experience. At the moment with this being one of the problems with the game I can’t recommend it.

Disliked - AnShi
Mar 5, 2021

AnShi felt like a disjointed, and frequently confusing, a story that was being told TO me, rather than WITH me. Even the idea of exploring the vast expanse is derailed by way too many invisible walls forcing you onto a straight path. There are some glimpses of the atmospheric game it was aspiring to be, and there were some nice feeling moments when I was riding my hoverboard over smooth desert terrain into a sunset. The music is divine, but unfortunately, it is simply not enough to save the rest of the game. The nugget of something good is there, but I feel that it needs a lot more work to become what it is striving to be.

This title has a cute design and hits on some common tropes (I couldn’t get into them because of spoilers) that I did like. The idea of a race of people who can turn into a kind of cat isn’t new but is often entertaining. However, I ultimately found the issues mentioned above too annoying and disturbing to really enjoy this game. Furthermore, the price point is high for the length of the game (around 3 hours to complete both routes). For these reasons, I must give this one a thumbs down.

War Truck Simulator should not be for sale in the state that it is in. There was a huge missed opportunity here to make something different and original but all the game ends up being is an awful PC port. It’s a reminder of why quality control is essential for game development. Do not buy this.

The only good things I can say about this game is the cute appearance and the reasonable price. With drastic change in gameplay and the downplay of drawing this is a lackluster continuation. Personally I didn’t find it fun or appealing even trying to consider it on it’s own merits, consisting only of tedious levels divided by boring cutscenes. If you’re interested in puzzle platformers I’m sure there’s better options, and as a fan of the series you’re better off ignoring this.

Disliked - Maze
Nov 8, 2020

Maze tries to be an atmospheric and relaxing experience, but what little atmosphere it may have been able to achieve is marred by its plethora of design flaws and bare-bones gameplay. Many of the details found within served to actively detract from my enjoyment of this title. I can’t in good conscience recommend it to even the most casual of switch owners, especially not at its seven dollar price-point.

Disliked - Lunch A Palooza
Nov 8, 2020

Lunch a Palooza has all the ingredients for a fun party game but the order we are given ends up being more of a food related disaster. Awkward controls, confusing gameplay and a level that causes motion sickness. This is a lunch that needs a lot more time in the oven before it’s ready for consumption.

Disliked - The Last Days
Oct 22, 2020

The Last Days was a huge disappointment. A sorely lacklustre story, complete lack of characters, sadly limited variation of puzzles, and utterly average graphics and sound resulted in a very neutral experience. It also only lasted an hour, and while I normally hate to make this statement, I have to call the price too high considering the length and enjoyability. I’m a huge fan of the point-and-click puzzle genre, but The Last Days was just an unfortunate waste of time as far as I’m concerned.

Her Majesty’s Ship feels like a direct port from PC with little or no conversion work carried out on it for its release on the Nintendo Switch. Playing the game for this review proved to be a frustrating experience, to say the least. Her Majesty’s Ship, in my opinion, could be a decent game if the control and menu problem where fixed to make it a less frustrating experience. As it is at the moment I can only say my score is….

Fantasy Tower Defense is a simplistic take on the standard Tower Defense games. There are 20 levels to defend your way through, which will keep you busy for a while if you can work out the strategy to make it to the end without any help from the game. I do think you could find a much better TD game on the eShop to purchase and spend time with as there isn’t much to Fantasy Tower Defense or any replayability in it.

Road to Guangdong is far from the visual novel with an added “zen” driving experience that it claims. This game feels like it was hastily thrown together as fast as possible with little care regarding gaming mechanics. The controls do not respond as they should and even trying to look around is a frustrating, difficult experience that is not worth the time or money, in my opinion. When considering Road to Guangdong‘s price point and all of its flaws, I would definitely steer away from this game.

Mittelborg: City of Mages has a pretty interesting premise, it’s a real pity that that is all it is. It plays like a straight port from pc or mobile. What art there is in the game looks well, I just wish there was more of it instead of a static image of the city. The translation of the text needs work to help the game story along and help to make it more interesting for the player. There are bigger and better simulation, strategy games to choose from on the eShop sadly this isn’t one of them.
