But Keylocker: Turn Based Cyberpunk Action is a hard game not to recommend, even with its hardly palatable stance for people used to the standardized visions of the gamesphere. Though it has a very punitive difficulty, a story that doesn't wait for the player and extensive dialogues that don't always seem to make clear sense, there's an intrinsic charm there born from interesting characters, locales that entice curiosity, and a story very rich in details and development, showing that the developer Moonana can fly even higher in the next productions.

8 / 10.0 - Halls of Torment
Sep 23, 2024

Halls of Torment offers a solid and addictive experience for fans of bullet hell-style roguelikes, combining accessible gameplay with a nostalgic look inspired by 1990s RPGs. Although it brings some innovations, the game remains faithful to the mechanics that made the genre successful, offering a wide variety of heroes, missions, and areas to explore. Despite some limitations in the interface and lack of more detailed explanations of certain mechanics, useful for players less familiar with the genre, the title has great potential to grow through future updates, providing hours of fun and challenges. It is an excellent option both for those who are discovering this type of game and for more experienced players looking for something new.

Despite relying on traditional concepts of the genre, Bloomtown: A Different Story stands out for the way it complements these characteristics, presenting a demon capture mechanic and a simple tabletop RPG system. Visually, it also draws attention and brings a nostalgic air to lovers of 16-bit games. Despite the pacing issues, it is a sure recommendation for any player who wants a challenging and enjoyable game to pass the time.

8.5 / 10.0 - Evotinction
Sep 21, 2024

Evotinction stands out as a unique addition to the game scene in 2024, delivering an immersive and challenging experience that values strategy and stealth over reckless action. The combination of hacking and stealth, inserted into a plot that mixes sci-fi and ethical dilemmas, brings a new perspective to a genre dominated by more conventional action titles. The constant tension caused by the progressive challenge [escalation] and the immersive ambience contribute to a compelling experience. Even with some details that won't please every player, Evotinction has an intriguing narrative and gameplay mechanics that challenge the player's wits, making it worth a highlight spot in the list of 2024's games.

FAIRY TAIL: Beach Volleyball Havoc errs especially in not offering more robust content to the players. Having only the quick match mode and lacking more depth in its mechanics will definitely leave it [restricted] to the casual side. Even so, it's way too simple even for that kind of game. Not even the Fairy Tail IP is well explored, as we only have the characters in swimsuits and theme magics. This leads to a completely uninteresting single player mode, as matches quickly become repetitive and it stops being fun. With at least one friend at your side, things change a little, as matches feel less robotic and more exciting. As it also has a low price[...], I believe it may be worth it only if you have a sibling or friend to play with frequently.

Parking Garage Rally Circuit doesn't have much content and is best suited for enthusiasts not only of the racing genre, but also of the 3D style of the 1990s that the game tries to revive. In this aspect, it is undoubtedly successful. Mastering drifts to get the best time is as fun as it is frustrating, as the slightest mistake can be quite punishing. If you like this type of experience, it is an ideal option, especially for playing online with friends.

Episode Aigis -The Answer- brings back the atmosphere and tactical combat that Persona 3 Reload is known for, offering a deeper look at the characters and their emotions after the main events. The epilogue adds interesting challenges and new difficulty options, as well as adjustments that make the experience less punishing than the original version, with highlights including a stylish setting and a reworked soundtrack. However, the repetitive exploration and lack of variety in activities outside of combat can make the campaign tiresome. Without the rich mix of social simulation and exploration that made Persona 3 Reload such an engaging experience, Episode Aigis is an epilogue that is recommended primarily for avid fans of the series.

7.5 / 10.0 - NBA 2K25
Sep 19, 2024

NBA 2K25 does a good job refining the gameplay and improving the feeling of realism in the matches, including the visual aspect. MyLeague amazes with its excellent, varied simulation options that go from the draft to a manager's office life. However, the microtransactions aggressiveness takes away all the potential and fun MyTeam and MyCareer could have. This and the absence of Showcase and MyNBA ERAS show signs that the franchise will soon have to reinvent itself not to become more of the same in a streak.

8.5 / 10.0 - Shogun Showdown
Sep 19, 2024

Shogun Showdown is a notable addition to the indie catalog and one of the most addictive games I've played recently. With a solid combination of roguelike and deckbuilding mechanics, as well as a strong strategic factor, even with short runs, the title is capable of providing good hours of fun.

Offering a good dose of action in an original universe, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II manages to deliver a great experience. The beautiful visuals combine well with the setting, so that the battles are exciting and complete, especially alongside friends. It's a shame that more care was needed in some specific points, but nothing that compromises this great game, especially for fans of the brand or lovers of the genre.

I believe the best word to describe Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown - Mask of Darkness is intensity. The DLC is short and straightforward, bringing new enemies, platforming challenges, and a challenging, fun final battle. Both new players and experienced ones will have to readapt themselves to Sargon's skills and figure out [how to deal with] the new additions it presents. All the novelties bring a fresh air to Sargon's adventure, showing that the Ubisoft Montpellier team can bring good additions to the franchise within this metroidvania structure.

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland has two very big extremes. While the gameplay is quite unfair and the level design has several flaws that harm the player's experience, the artwork shows immense affection for the original material, which captivates those who watched the cartoon at the time. Still, unfortunately, it's not worth getting angry just for the nostalgic appeal.

What happened to Aero the Acro-bat 2 is quite frustrating. The game itself is somewhat fun for a 90's platformer but the port presentation is horrendous. It doesn't even look like a planned change but the release of a beta they forgot to finish up.

In the end, The Casting of Frank Stone wasn't the best experience for a game with a cinematic narrative. Of course, its problems took me out of that universe a few times, but I still managed to enjoy the story, and the replayability factor was something that made me want to play it again. In other words, it's interesting, but it has its caveats. We don't know if Supermassive Games and Behaviour Interactive have plans to continue their partnership and create a new story set in the Dead By Daylight universe. However, if that happens, it's important that there's a focus on creating more interesting characters and an atmosphere of terror that brings true moments of tension to players.

With a reformulated gameplay that is adequate for the modern market but doesn't bastardize its identity, Juliet Starling's troubled musical epic continues to be an impeccable experience within [the limits of] its qualities and issues.

Tactical Breach Wizards surprised me very positively and I feel very confident in recommending it to anyone who enjoys turn-based strategy games that think outside the box. If you are also curious about what it would be like to control super soldiers capable of using magical powers (or dangerously armed wizards, which is the same thing), do yourself a favor and get this work by Suspicious Development. Although I don't have the same clairvoyance as a certain protagonist, I can bet that you won't regret it.

7.5 / 10.0 - Pyrene
Sep 11, 2024

Pyrene stands out for its creative mix of deck building and dungeon exploration. Its initial simplicity is deceiving, because as the difficulty increases, the games become a true exercise in strategic planning. The variety of heroes and the constant introduction of elements and challenges add layers of complexity, requiring frequent adaptation of tactics to survive. This balance between simplicity and depth makes the game an engaging experience. On the other hand, the title does not escape the typical problems of the genre, such as repetitiveness and the strong influence of luck. Although there is an attempt to bring variety with characters and modifiers, the feeling of more of the same persists after a few runs. Even so, Pyrene is an intriguing game that is worth checking out and has the potential to improve over time.

6.5 / 10.0 - Yars Rising
Sep 10, 2024

Yars Rising doesn't intend to revolutionize or stand out in the genre, but the approach of adapting an Atari classic into a metroidvania, even with the creative liberties adopted, resulted in something, at the very least, interesting, although it needed more inspiration. I had fun in sporadic sessions, solving minigames and destroying repeated robots while listening to an incredible playlist, but, in the end, it's not something that stands out.

I've already reviewed some Konami collections in the past months and I can attest that Castlevania Dominus Collection is one of the best works in their catalog. M2 made a wonderful work once again on the package, not only preserving three inaccessible classics but also revitalizing one of the most ignored works in the franchise.

Even with fewer games than the previous collection, we must recognize that MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics contains six titles that have a huge impact on the history of fighting games. The aura they exude from the first play is absurd, to the point of giving goosebumps to the most ardent fan. It's something that other more current names in the genre seem to have lost; that mix of charm and dynamism that ends up leading whoever is in control to always play just one more game after the "last one". If you've never played any of these gems, now is the time. If you were already a fan, feel blessed with the best collection of fighting games currently available.
