GameBlast's Reviews

In the end, The Casting of Frank Stone wasn't the best experience for a game with a cinematic narrative. Of course, its problems took me out of that universe a few times, but I still managed to enjoy the story, and the replayability factor was something that made me want to play it again. In other words, it's interesting, but it has its caveats. We don't know if Supermassive Games and Behaviour Interactive have plans to continue their partnership and create a new story set in the Dead By Daylight universe. However, if that happens, it's important that there's a focus on creating more interesting characters and an atmosphere of terror that brings true moments of tension to players.

With a reformulated gameplay that is adequate for the modern market but doesn't bastardize its identity, Juliet Starling's troubled musical epic continues to be an impeccable experience within [the limits of] its qualities and issues.

Tactical Breach Wizards surprised me very positively and I feel very confident in recommending it to anyone who enjoys turn-based strategy games that think outside the box. If you are also curious about what it would be like to control super soldiers capable of using magical powers (or dangerously armed wizards, which is the same thing), do yourself a favor and get this work by Suspicious Development. Although I don't have the same clairvoyance as a certain protagonist, I can bet that you won't regret it.

7.5 / 10.0 - Pyrene
Sep 11, 2024

Pyrene stands out for its creative mix of deck building and dungeon exploration. Its initial simplicity is deceiving, because as the difficulty increases, the games become a true exercise in strategic planning. The variety of heroes and the constant introduction of elements and challenges add layers of complexity, requiring frequent adaptation of tactics to survive. This balance between simplicity and depth makes the game an engaging experience. On the other hand, the title does not escape the typical problems of the genre, such as repetitiveness and the strong influence of luck. Although there is an attempt to bring variety with characters and modifiers, the feeling of more of the same persists after a few runs. Even so, Pyrene is an intriguing game that is worth checking out and has the potential to improve over time.

6.5 / 10.0 - Yars Rising
Sep 10, 2024

Yars Rising doesn't intend to revolutionize or stand out in the genre, but the approach of adapting an Atari classic into a metroidvania, even with the creative liberties adopted, resulted in something, at the very least, interesting, although it needed more inspiration. I had fun in sporadic sessions, solving minigames and destroying repeated robots while listening to an incredible playlist, but, in the end, it's not something that stands out.

I've already reviewed some Konami collections in the past months and I can attest that Castlevania Dominus Collection is one of the best works in their catalog. M2 made a wonderful work once again on the package, not only preserving three inaccessible classics but also revitalizing one of the most ignored works in the franchise.

Even with fewer games than the previous collection, we must recognize that MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics contains six titles that have a huge impact on the history of fighting games. The aura they exude from the first play is absurd, to the point of giving goosebumps to the most ardent fan. It's something that other more current names in the genre seem to have lost; that mix of charm and dynamism that ends up leading whoever is in control to always play just one more game after the "last one". If you've never played any of these gems, now is the time. If you were already a fan, feel blessed with the best collection of fighting games currently available.

5.5 / 10.0 - My Lovely Empress
Sep 8, 2024

With My Lovely Empress, GameChanger Studio even tries to subvert the formula of My Lovely Wife and My Lovely Daughter by bringing greater complexity to the product, but even the technical advances are not enough to remedy the lack of consistency in the execution of the proposals of the title delivered, which does have an interesting story, but the stress of depending too much on a tiring gameplay cycle and other random factors will only be valid for very specific niches of strategy game fans. The predecessors may be simpler and easier, but even as repetitive as this one, they certainly offer much more entertainment.

Squirrel with a Gun stands out for its irreverence and creativity. Although it doesn't offer the depth or technical refinement that many games strive for, it fulfills its goal of entertaining by embracing the absurd and exaggerated humor. The combination of a squirrel with a gun, sandbox mechanics, and moments of pure fun make the game a great choice for those looking for something light and hilarious. However, its simplicity and lack of polish in some aspects may cause discomfort for players who expect more realism or complexity.

8.5 / 10.0 - WHAT THE CAR?
Sep 6, 2024

WHAT THE CAR? offers a chaotic and humorous experience that embraces limitless creativity. With its short levels full of unusual situations, the game constantly surprises by changing the rules and introducing new crazy ideas at every turn. However, this dizzying approach also brings some challenges, with stages that tire us out due to their simplicity and repetition. Still, the charm and originality, combined with a large amount of content and creative options, make WHAT THE CAR? a fun and captivating experience for those who enjoy a good dose of madness and creativity.

The arrival of Asphalt Legends Unite on PlayStation also helps draw attention to the updates made on other consoles, but it also shows a great potential sealed by the greed of microtransactions. I understand that it is a free game and that some monetization should exist, but the way of limiting players and forcing them to buy expensive passes and packs takes the shine off what could be an excellent arcade racing game.

10 / 10.0 - Astro Bot
Sep 5, 2024

Astro Bot continues the good work of representing the history of PlayStation and opening smiles with countless adorable references, but it has much more than that to offer, being a fun, creative, dynamic and beautiful game in every detail, deserving a place in the pantheon of the best 3D platformers of all time.

Just like Rio Reincarnation, Date A Live: Ren Dystopia is a visual novel that complements the series and allows fans to have a little extra taste of the beautiful characters' unique sides. Unfortunately, the title doesn't go beyond that, with a predictable plot and little development to the characters, elements that make the game not so good as an entrypoint. However, even so, I'm very happy to be able to play it officially in English.

Considering the success of the series in the whole world, it's curious that only now Fate/Stay Night Remastered brings to the west the visual novel that kickstarted the franchise. Be it as it may, the important part is that we finally can enjoy this incredible story, with its unique universe and captivating characters. Though the additions to the new version could have been more significant, it continues to be practically a must in the library of anyone who enjoys big adventures, even being an entry point to the genre.

7 / 10.0 - Gundam Breaker 4
Sep 4, 2024

Gundam Breaker 4 is an action RPG that focuses on robot customization above all else. Assembling your own robot from the endless options of parts and going into battle is a lot of fun. However, the levels are too simple, the missions are very repetitive and there are clear points where the game could improve in a future iteration.

Monster Jam Showdown is a small improvement over its predecessor. The visuals are now more polished, as is the overall presentation of the game. Add to that the varied and numerous challenges, the great soundtrack and the multiplayer features, and we have an interesting game. It has some issues, especially regarding the occasional instability in driving, but it is still a good option for everyone's library.

5 / 10.0 - Concord
Sep 3, 2024

Concord is an expensive game that offers little to justify its price tag, lacking in charisma and, worse still, lacking in audience support. As a GaaS, it exemplifies how destructive this business model can be when poorly planned. Unfortunately, the game met its fate, with servers scheduled to be temporarily suspended on September 6, 2024, less than a month after launch. Firewalk Studios’ first venture shows competence, but it is destined to be remembered as the biggest failure of 2024 and, possibly, of the PlayStation brand itself.

7.5 / 10.0 - Sumerian Six
Sep 2, 2024

Sumerian Six has some specific problems, but it is far from being a flawed project. The choice of locations and themes is very engaging and there is nothing better than having Nazis to be destroyed during the adventure. The lack of enemy diversity could be a problem, but for me, the more Nazis killed, the better. The combination of tactical combat with stealth elements reminiscent of the beloved Shadow Tactics is a great gameplay choice, and the direction that Artificer chose to make the player's life more difficult as their powers increase is the icing on the cake for a challenging and fun experience.

6.5 / 10.0 - Visions of Mana
Sep 2, 2024

Visions of Mana is an adventure that honors and expands the legacy of the Mana series by maintaining its characteristic accessibility and charm, but it ends up stumbling in its execution. The game presents a visually charming world and fast-paced battles, but the lack of boldness and superficiality of several aspects prevent the experience from standing out. Although the combat is dynamic and the exploration is engaging, the lack of significant challenges and the repetition of common elements weaken the potential of the journey. Still, the game is an interesting evolution for the series, and is recommended for those looking for a light and nostalgic experience. Despite the problems, Visions of Mana manages to capture the essence of the franchise, delivering a lush and charismatic universe. It is clear that the series has potential, however, it may need a little more boldness for future titles to truly shine.
