GameBlast's Reviews

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes was clearly made with dedication to deliver an epic experience about assembling a resistance army in the midst of an inglorious war. The narrative cannot give importance to such a vast cast, but, overall, it does a good job with what it has at hand, telling an engaging, well-written and well-voiced story. Translation does not follow the same level and several systems seem to be too close to the old productions on which they are based, missing the chance to modernize to allow for more efficient management. The end result is a good JRPG that suffers from limitations, which can still be resolved with changes here and there to systems, options and menus, bringing with it the potential to really shine in its environment.

8 / 10.0 - Harold Halibut
Apr 15, 2024

Despite some occasional bugs, problems with the plot's rhythm and lack of more engaging gameplay, Harold Halibut does not lose its shine as a work that uses its form well to bring visual charm, without forgetting to work on its content a story with strong text, interesting characters and issues so prominent in human nature.

7.5 / 10.0 - Children of the Sun
Apr 10, 2024

Children of the Sun is a unique experience. It may be a little derivative of other games, but it doesn't change the fact that the game has its own identity, full of personality by simplifying its gameplay and focusing on the variety of situations in which it can be used, masterfully sustaining the interest of the player. It's a shame that the short duration ends up somewhat undermining the impact of this stylish paranormal thriller full of occultism and paranoia.

9 / 10.0 - Terra Memoria
Apr 10, 2024

Terra Memoria was a pleasant surprise among the games I tried this year. Within its limitations, it presented a fun and thought-provoking story, charismatic characters and a well-designed combat system, which caught my attention for its creativity and for forcing me to develop different strategies for each pair present in battle. There are some setbacks in the development of the story, but they are not problems that significantly affect the experience.

6.5 / 10.0 - Moonglow Bay
Apr 9, 2024

The fact that Moonglow Bay has already been released previously for other platforms increases the size of its problems, as they should have already been fixed. Furthermore, what we have here is a game with a simple and captivating proposal, but which is greatly hampered by several execution errors and considerable flaws.

Grandia HD Collection offers an opportunity for fans to relive the first two titles in this great JRPG series. However, although it brings visual improvements and the option to choose between audio in English and Japanese, the quality of the gameplay and stories of these classic games is able to overcome the flaws in the collection's execution, providing a rewarding experience for fans of this genre.

9 / 10.0 - Freedom Planet 2
Apr 8, 2024

Freedom Planet 2 manages to be a great sequel and an excellent example of how to use a classic inspiration in a declared way, but implementing its own personality, without ending up becoming a mere copy of other famous franchises. It's a must-have title for anyone who likes adventure and action in the good old platform style.

7 / 10.0 - One Last Breath
Apr 3, 2024

One Last Breath focused on the narrative and left its gameplay with simpler features. This was a wise choice, but a little more care would have been welcome, from the inclusion of more scenes to greater graphic polish. The gameplay would also need some adjustments, but overall, it's an adventure that manages to deliver what it promises without disappointing.

Minishoot' Adventures mixes metroidvania with shoot 'em up in a captivating experience thanks to its colorful world full of secrets. The diversity of challenges and the possibility of improving the ship keep the game interesting, despite relying on familiar mechanics. However, the lack of innovation in skills and combat, as well as a limited map system, mark the negative points, preventing the title from reaching its full potential. Still, the game does what it sets out to do well, offering an engaging journey with lots of action and exploration. The charismatic atmosphere and fluidity of the action make up for the shortcomings, making Minishoot' Adventures a worthy addition to the genre, even with the feeling of missed opportunities in terms of boldness and innovation.

6 / 10.0 - Tamarak Trail
Apr 1, 2024

Tamarak Trail presents an intriguing proposal by incorporating dice as a central piece of its combat mechanics. However, the title is hampered by the superficiality of its roguelike elements, resulting in a monotonous journey lacking a palpable sense of progress. Therefore, despite its potential, it is not recommended for those who have not yet explored all the good options available within the genre.

Contra: Operation Galuga is a fun title that can be a good direction for the franchise going forward, keeping the best parts of what it has to offer to the genre. Though it plays too safe and doesn't bring many novelties, I believe it to be what we need after years without something we could call at least decent. Unfortunately, the audiovisual presentation significantly hinders the final quality and its price isn't justified by the content it offers.

6 / 10.0 - Match Village
Mar 29, 2024

The Match Village proposal is indeed interesting, but it could bring more basic features for players, such as presenting the nomenclature of each available building, even if it were in a guide menu; because confusing some similar houses can ruin a game for a while. The need to move the camera all the time is also a little frustrating, which can turn the mission of populating your village into something stressful.

The mix of fast-paced action, exploration and puzzles results in a stylish adventure full of exciting moments. The various ways to use the drill, from crossing obstacles to controlling vehicles, guarantee a diverse experience from start to finish. 8 / 10.0 - Dragon's Dogma 2
Mar 27, 2024

Dragon’s Dogma 2 feels more like a remake or reimagining that improves on the original ideas than an actual sequel. Its plot does not continue the original plot, it makes the same narrative errors and its design bears little resemblance to something actually conceived in 2024. However, the experience remains interesting and fun at all times. The epic combat, exquisite art direction that delivers a true fantasy world, improved vocation and pawn system and the feeling of freedom and exploration, with dangers lurking around every corner, make this RPG a delight for fans of the genre.

After many hours playing The Rise of Ronin, it is undeniable that it bears many similarities to titles such as Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and Nioh. It may be inferior to them in certain aspects, but it also surpasses its peers in several aspects. More than that, it offers an original and rich experience, full of unique and competent elements. Not only is the adventure engaging, but it can be shaped according to the player's decisions. The gameplay is even more flexible and satisfying, with many types of weapons, combos, projectiles, items and equipment to obtain and master, all of them well implemented. There are many activities to entertain yourself, from photography to hunting powerful bandits. The few flaws are (far) outweighed by the positive qualities, making the title a practically mandatory addition to your gaming library.
