Small pirate adventure for modest sailors. Possible for casual and young players.

King of Seas is a good piracy-themed game, but it doesn't seem to have found a perfect balance between a solid management system and engaging, exciting gameplay. It has its aesthetic limitations and merits in an adventurous narrative, but it lacks repetitiveness and frustratingly tedious passages.

Superficial and dull, King of Seas is more like a "get through the boredom" challenge than fine adventure game.

Although it has its shortcomings, in general, King of Seas manages to provide a nice experience that can keep you hooked to the screen for a long time. It's not the pinnacle of pirate games, but considering that it doesn't have many rivals in this genre, I'd say give it a shot if you're curious.

In theory, a pleasant and relaxing game. However, king of seas' subsequent story events are blocked behind higher levels of experience and gold. So you have to take the time to get them. In addition, there are repetitive side quests, little music and not fully thought out gameplay.

It may not be everyone's flagon of grog but I had an excellent time with King of Seas and will continue to until I dominate the high seas.

Whenever you embark on a journey while raising your Jolly Roger on the high seas, pretty well everyone out there is going to evaluate the experience against the genre-defining Sid Meier’s Pirates...

Despite some ebb tide in the form of questionable mechanics, King of Seas is a thoroughly enjoyable game. A ton of replayability and very free gameplay make this game enjoyable to binge or in bite-sized sessions alike. If you are looking for a no-frills experience that you can enjoy in your very own way, King of Seas is the game for you.

I can imagine that for some, King of Seas could be a very satisfying and relaxing game if you have patience and interest in a more realistic style of in-game sailing. But for me, it doesn’t have enough gusto to keep my interest, which is a shame because it promises so much and on the surface looks like such an exciting game.

King of Seas is a fantastic isometric pirate action game with a good story and plenty of loot to plunder. It’s great for short bursts or long loot hauls as I worked towards the next best ship.

In short, King of Seas is a very promising effort, but it is betrayed by the choices of its creators, mainly in the field of history, but also its mechanisms.

King of Seas more than earns its keep given its price-point (it comes in at a very respectable $25 USD on the Xbox/Microsoft store) as it is an enjoyable, casual gaming experience with combat that is easy to grasp, isn’t tedious, and has numerous diversions, from trading to resource gathering and exploration. Even with the minimal issues that I personally had with some of the design choices, King of Seas is still a wonderful and worthy title in the ever-growing pantheon of indie games that are sweeping the market in lieu of standout AAA-titles.

King of Seas has all the ingredients to bake into a fresh riveting pirate game. It just feels like the cook tripped on deck, and seagulls flew off with some of them while leaving the others half-eaten.

But ultimately, King of Seas succeeds in most of its goals. It offers an enjoyable top-down pirate ship experience, with an engaging battle system, pleasant worlds, an interesting RPG skilltree and a pleasant story. On paper, it doesn’t do anything innovative or new, and yet the end result is an original and fun experience with a clear identity, one that we hope the developers can expand upon with updates or a sequel.

Overall, King of Seas possesses great potential, but its flaws take the wind out of its sails. The core gameplay around a procedurally generated pirate world is exciting, especially given the special abilities and ship customization. However, the game becomes too much of a grind early on even on the easiest difficulty mode and has several frustrations related to the camera perspective, difficult controls, and steep learning curve. For veteran and patient players, the game possesses near-unlimited challenges which pose a significant test of one’s abilities. Casual players, on the other hand, might want to set sail for calmer waters. Then again, no one said that becoming king was easy.

King of Seas is a casual seafaring title that doesn't take itself too seriously. However this negatively affects its gameplay, storytelling and mission structure.

Who wouldn’t want to be a pirate? Sailing the seven seas, swashbuckling your way across the open waters. Sinking ships, plundering treasure, and trading stolen goods at various pirate friendly ports.

King of Seas feels like an early-access version of a game that doesn’t want to admit it’s still in early-access. There’s an interesting game waiting to be played beneath a sea of performance issues and incomplete design choices. When everything works and the design comes together, King of Seas is a delightful pirate romp that briefly holds in its hand the map leading to the treasure of a portable pirate adventure.

King of Seas is an open world game that is momentarily attractive due to its various aspects related to gameplay, the RPG progression system and naval combat. However, its qualities cannot face the strong waves of the ocean that drown the fun in moments. With a generic open world, repetitive main and side missions, and frequent crashes, the 3DClouds title is a reasonably interesting pirate adventure.
