Put simply, Halo Infinite is a return to form. 343 Industries has managed to deliver a campaign with a compelling storyline, fresh ideas, and familiar gunplay that takes the series in a brand new direction without breaking the formula. It was well worth the wait, even if there are a few bugs remaining to hammer out.

The engrossing flagship Xbox shooter returns with its fabled craggy supersoldier and plenty of style but not quite enough bang.

Halo Infinite's move to a more open-world structure feels like a new beginning for the series, with nostalgic nods and fresh introductions combining to great effect. Both the campaign and multiplayer have room for improvement, but the core experience is strong.

Halo Infinite multiplayer delivers the most impressive Halo sandbox we've ever seen with gorgeous stages, satisfying gunplay, and perfect moment-to-moment action. It's an absolutely stellar accomplishment from the team at 343 Industries.

Halo Infinte is a new start for the series that promises good. The open world means new ways to play and together with the new grapple hook it will be a pleasure to explore the huge spaces. Unfortunately, there are still many empty areas, which tells us that the game may not be fully developed. However, gameplay is on top, now only the final pieces of the puzzle are missing that can make Halo Infinite the best of its kind.

Halo Infinite is, in my opinion, the best game of the series. While still faltering in the narrative, character development, and exposition, it improves earlier titles. Combat is entertaining and engaging, with improvements made across the board, but mention must go to new abilities like the grappling hook. The move to an open world helps the game stand apart, with added freedom to take the fight to your enemies and a vast arsenal of weapons and vehicles to bring into battle. While it slips up on a few occasions, from somebody who has never been part of the Halo fan club, this has given me a glimpse of what could be great things to come.

In its entirety, Halo Infinite is excellent. The campaign may have its problems, including this mania to sink into the clichés of the open world, it remains solid and is done without displeasure even if the coop is delayed. Finally, its fully free-to-play multiplayer component is certainly the best multiplayer experience of this end of the year.

Halo Infinite succeeds in the dual purpose of bringing the series back to its origins without forgetting to make several useful changes to rejuvenate the game formula.

Right now, it's a damn good game... but when it eventually catches up to its ambitions, it could wind up being something much more impressive.

I’ve shared many gripes I have with Halo Infinite. I’ve shared them meticulously because I love this franchise and want it to continue succeeding. Beyond them all, I absolutely love playing it. The campaign’s open-world gameplay is phenomenal, and I can’t wait to play through it again on legendary, especially with a friend in the future. Despite my disappointment in the narrative, the lead performances are strong, and the presentation is cinematic. I’ve been playing Halo multiplayer with my friends for nearly twenty years. We’ve kept up with the Master Chief Collection over the years, but Infinite is the most addicted we’ve been in a long time. It’s far from perfect, but I can’t wait to see how Halo Infinite evolves over the coming months and years.

Infinite wants so badly to feel like a fresh start—to deliver onto players a familiar setting that they can revel in but with a host of new tools. But that fresh start comes at the expense of all the big, beautiful, and ambitious ways in which the last few titles in the series made us want to take part in the Covenant War.
