Trails into Reverie marks the end of one of gaming’s longest running, consecutive released series, with Trails of Cold Steel, and a fresh beginning for another if NIS America has anything to say about it.

While the visuals and flashy style of the series have continued to evolve nicely, the story will probably be inaccessible for the uninitiated

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie delivers an impressive finale to the Crossbell/Erebonia saga, offering a sophisticated narrative skillfully spread across three distinct story arcs and an ample cast. Its refined combat system, coupled with a wealth of replayable content, makes it an essential pick for JRPG enthusiasts, despite needing context from preceding installments for the full experience.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is the latest installment of The Legend of Heroes franchise released in the West and which, within the Trials series, is in charge of closing the Crossbell and Erebonia arcs. Nihon Falcon's JRPG will close the story of the last two series and lay the foundations for the Calvard arc, of which the first installment will soon reach the West. Although we are facing a title that grates at a high level, the fact that it closes two arcs and starts from the previous events does not make it a recommended game for new users. Of course, the fan of the franchise will enjoy it without a doubt.

Trails into Reverie is the all-star game of the series fans have been waiting for, but struggles to advance beyond that.

A great title which practically ties the knot with a cherry on top for both the Crossbell and the Erebonian empire. If you’re a loyal follower of the series, especially if you’re a fan of the Special Support Section and Rean, you'd surely be prepared for a treat. For once they didn’t force and try to squeeze every single character in existence into one title. Instead they’ve set in a clever use of the Reverie Corridor system so it doesn’t feel like a big mash up. Of course, there are some storylines that remain confusing and seems that they’re obsessed with betrayal plot twists, but these mirrored dimensions through the Reverie Corridor makes them somewhat acceptable. It’s for sure the endgame theme of a long running series, and a great checkpoint for more surprises to come in the near future.

Positively overflowing with meaty, tactical combat and terrific character writing, Trails of Reverie is held back by its dated presentation and sky-high barrier to entry.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is a honorable conclusion to the Crossbell and Erebonia arcs. Though it's not recommended for those who haven't experimented the previous games yet, the title offers a beautiful emotional catarsis to the challenges the characters faced so far.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie acts as an excellent finale that long-time fans of the series will find themselves fully engrossed in until the very end. It brings together so many characters, locales, and events from the games that came before it in a meaningful and satisfying manner, whilst the core gameplay mechanics remain as engaging as ever. Add to that the brilliant Reverie Corridor that really fleshes out the experience and it’ll be clear that this is a triumphant conclusion for the long-running story.

Trails into Reverie is an impressive send-off to a series that does its best to deliver on fan expectations with characters, though an often generic and slow storyline does drag it down a bit.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is an excellent finale to the two previous story arcs. What's more, the aspect of three paths progressing in the same story is really interesting, especially as there's a good mix of recurring and new characters. What's more, the pace is very good and the story is more concise, which is better. Finally, once again, the abracadabra scenario will keep you on the edge of your seat with its unexpected twists and turns. In short, if you're a fan of JRPGs and haven't already done so, you absolutely must discover the Trails series.

The Legend of Heroes Trails into Reveire is an excellent addition to the series. My only advice is that players should consider playing the previous Trails game in order to have a full grasp of the lore surrounding the game and the events leading up to this new conflict. Knowing that this is the epilogue of the Erobonia and Crossbell arcs, I was surprised at how immersed I was with the story and how impressed I was with the JRPG mechanics that don’t feel like they are restricted to just consoles.

The tenth installment in a JRPG series that is increasingly taking off outside of Japan for good reason: Unforgettable characters, plot twists, an anime and fantasy world that feels close for political wheeling and dealing and war tension.... Trails into Reverie is the link between all the paths traveled by these heroes, and introduces a new group of anti-heroes to give even more perspectives on the continent of Zemuria.

Trails to Revere is not a kind game to newcomers. If you want to start this series, there is a lot to learn. Whether it is the story, the ornament system, or anything else, you might find yourself reading, rereading, and rereading to get your head around everything. On the other hand, if you are someone that has played all the games or even a few of them, there is just so much here that will please you. Whether it is all the characters from other games, the end to two arcs, or a beginning of a new one, Trails to Reverie is one for the fans, and it is another great addition to the series.

The greatest strength of the Legend of Heroes series is its ability to weave together a multitude of grand stories across a cohesive and ever-expanding timeline, akin to the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reverie maintains enough Trails DNA to be a worth your time, but it's lacking the charm of earlier titles.
