At the end of the day, Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a good anime fighter. There are plenty of unique characters to choose from, and even a few special guests from other MAGES titles. I wasn’t really impressed with some of choices made with the subtitles, but this is a minor complaint that doesn’t really take much away from this one. Combat here is simple to pick up and play with enough depth to keep you interested for hours to come. There are plenty of modes to mess around with offline, as well as some online modes to take on your friends. If you’re a fan of anime style fighters, at the $39.99 price tag, you should probably give this one a go. I feel like there is enough meat here to keep you entertained for hours. If you are new to fighting games, this may be a good title to start with, since it isn’t overly complicated to play, but it is a lot of fun.

There’s a lot to like in Phantom Breaker: Omnia, namely its “easy-to-learn, not-so-hard-to-master” combat system and the sheer amount of fully voiced campaigns for players to enjoy on-the-go. It even controls surprisingly well on Nintendo’s archaic Joy-Cons, all things considered. The problem lies on its uninteresting character design, resulting in half of the roster looking like clones of each other, and the fact I legitimately cannot see its online community lasting for long, especially with Persona 4 Arena Ultimax right around the corner.

Though it is still somewhat lacking in the quality of life department, Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a game that is worth getting for fans of the genre. With a gameplay that offers simple inputs but many possibilities for combat, this game has a lot more to offer than it may seem at first.

Its old fashioned graphics and weird movements are the most biggest wall for new comers. When you overcome those awkwardness, an elaborate combat system and high-speed battle await you. Single play modes are good but multi play environment is not.

Otherwise, Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a solid enough 2D anime versus that I’m happy to have finally seen localized. Plenty of characters with their own personal fighting styles before applying secondary mechanics and there’s more than enough to keep fighting enthusiasts going especially with the online versus component.

Undoubtedly a game totally focused on its combat, both for novice and expert players, with small stories and Arcade modes to pass the time.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia can't be called a bad game, however there are certain aspects that could be optimized. In a fighting title, it is problematic to have stronger, faster, and more damaging characters than others. A fight game needs to consider a delicate balance, which is not always noted in this particular experience. Despite this, the game presents a fairly simple yet gratifying fighting mechanic. The inclusion of 3 different fighting styles is, without a doubt, one of the better aspects providing a great variety to the game (still, it's not something new, or better implemented in other games).

Phantom Breaker: Omnia’s flashy cast of fighters are easy to learn and take through great single player content but dated systems and basic multiplayer hold this anime fighter back.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a long-awaited release of a dormant niche fighting game franchise that many players will be jumping into for the very first time. It's the best first impression you'll get for this fighter, but it's also one that can be overwhelming and hard to sift through for those not completely ready for it.

This latest release already feels dated when put next to current fighting games. With other games getting re-released simultaneously with better netcode and a more cohesive style I fear many players will look over this title.
