New Tales from the Borderlands makes an attempt at recreating the magic of the original game by Telltale. Unfortunately, that studio's magic touch is not present in this new title. There is fun to be had, especially for Borderlands fans. but New Tales from the Borderlands does not suck you in, nor does it get much better as it goes on.

New Tales from the Borderlands may not be as sharp as the original, but if you're looking for a great follow-up with a fresh feel, a unique band of miscreants and something to chuckle at, then this will deliver on those fronts.

While there may be some who enjoy this, most who play this hoping to get another taste of what they got with Tales of the Borderlands will feel let down

New Tales from the Borderlands picks up exactly where the first game left off: An incredibly charming cast of protagonists, the dumb Borderlands humor with gags at every turn, and a completely stupid and therefore no less fun storyline. The game is bursting with charm and, especially from the point of view of every series fan, certainly gets an enormous sympathy bonus.

New Tales of the Borderlands is a worthy successor to the original Telltales games. We feel the evolution of the adventure-narrative style. For some, the game may be redundant or less original, but overall 2K and Gearbox gave us a quality game. Despite the busy time of year for new releases, if you like the genre this should be on top of your list.

I must say that I have massively enjoyed New Tales from the Borderlands. The comedic dialogues, graphics, interactions, and of course storyline, are each fantastic! It will certainly capture not only the hearts of Borderlands fans around the world, but also appeal to new players far and wide.

New Tales from the Borderlands is ultimately the worthy continuation of a dream pursued a few years ago. As well as being further proof of maturity on the part of Gearbox Software, it is a demonstration of how important it is to build a good story on certain occasions. Net of a gameplay that doesn't innovate much, we are in front of a production that is a must for every fan and, who knows, even for those who can't do without the Borderlands universe.

New Tales from the Borderlands is sadly one of the most disappointing sequels of the recent years that manages to be behind its predecessor from around 10 years ago in almost every aspect.

'New Tales From The Borderlands' is a spin-off. Like its predecessor, this game plays differently from the main games. It does play very easily, it looks better again and it has a typical Borderlands story. Furthermore, as the title insinuates, there are a few things that are new. The main characters are less memorable, but fun is once again guaranteed.

New Tales from the Borderlands is a sequel that seemingly forgets everything that made the original so special and shoehorns in a story that simply doesn’t keep you engaged. Whilst it’s visually lovely and feels like it’s a Borderlands experience, it’s all style and no substance. Without heart or humour, this feels like a cash-in, and for a sequel to one of the greatest narrative games of all time? That’s just not good enough.

New Tales from the Borderlands may not hit the highs of the original but it does deliver an oft laugh filled adventure with a great cast that fit right in with the Borderlands series.

Fans of Borderlands looking for something else to play are bound to eat New Tales from the Borderlands up simply because it’s got more of what’s trademark to the series: the same all over the place humor, colorful characters, and very polished presentation. But for those looking for a revelatory experience that could sit among Telltale Games’ best efforts might find themselves disappointed by the game’s detached lack of interactivity and hit and miss comedy.

A worthwhile adventure that, while it does not reach the heights of the first episode, does not disfigure in comparison to Telltale's heavy legacy, with a mix of compelling new characters, dialogues that often crack a smile and an art direction worthy of the saga's fame.

New Tales from the Borderlands would be easier to swallow if it wasn’t trying to follow up one of the best cinematic adventure games ever made. Instead, we get a forced episodic structure to a game that isn’t episodic, a cast of characters that are more interesting on paper than they are in execution, and a story that ultimately lacks stakes since there’s no personal investment in what happens to three bad people that aren’t all that likable.

At about 10 hours, New Tales from the Borderlands is a solid successor to the first title under Telltale, and its story has all the right emotional beats. I cannot count the number of laughs the episodes drew from me, but towards the end, the game's uneven pacing was hard to ignore. Paired with its stale quick-time events, there is more New Tales from the Borderlands to improve on, but this sequel is a step in the right direction.

Creating a sequel to one of Telltale’s best games isn’t easy, but New Tales from the Borderlands gave it a red hot go. It’s characters are reminiscent of the original, while also being funny and likeable in their own unique way. The story is no slouch either, even though it does drop off in the latter half. Still, if you are a big fan of interactive movies and QTEs, then this new tale is certainly worth experiencing.

Overall, New Tales from the Borderlands is a great addition to the series, and despite switching developers, it hasn’t skipped a beat. Borderlands fans will certainly enjoy the many references that will get you past the fact that you can’t fire too many guns in this one. Even if you’re not a fan of Borderlands but enjoy story-centric Choose Your Own Adventure books and games, basically titles like any of the old Telltale releases, you’re in for a treat. The game feels distinctly more Gearbox now than Telltale – not necessarily for better or worse, but it’s a more refreshing version of the game genre that can easily get stagnant if not done right, and New Tales from the Borderlands is hilarious world-building and storytelling done right.

As a slower-paced story, it lacks the action and zaniness of its predecessor – but by opting for a quieter, more intimate tale, New Tales from the Borderlands carves out a deeply heartfelt, character-driven adventure that highlights the power and potential of friendship in a barren land.
