What Fika Production has achieved with Ship of Fools is far from obvious, namely to reinvent itself in a genre that has taken a lot of space in the last few years. The game will catch you by its presentation as well as its frenzied rhythm during the games. If you can play it with two people, it's even better. But the adventure itself is worth the effort if you like roguelike games. And that's good because I love it. If that's the case for you, there's no reason not to fall in love with Ship of Fools!

Ship of Fools is truly fun and an incredible debut for the team at Fika Games.
This nautical roguelike is chaotic, frantic and sometimes frustrating if you’re on your own. There’re too many variables in the trinkets/weaponry via RNG to squander your enjoyment and an AI that can feel unfair at times. But with a co-captain, there’s some treasure to be had, and a presentation that could cure scurvy.
Ship of Fools fits my personal definition of two thumbs up. It is a very entertaining gameplay loop with engaging ship combat. With quirky weapons and challenges which had me keen to jump back into another run even after yet another failure. There are niggles to mention. I found the controls a bit clumsy when the action really heated up and the game does suffer from some pretty nasty difficulty spikes at times. It’s the typical rogue-lite formula, where you gradually improve after a lot of repetition and spending time upgrading back at base. A formula that no doubt is starting to tire. But when I sat back to reflect more, Ship of Fools was just a fantastic co-op game to play with a friend or loved one. My shipmate and I have been going through a pretty rough patch in life in general and Ship of Fools felt like an experience which just allowed us to forget our troubles for a few hours and enjoy ourselves. Just a couple of fools having a good time. Hopefully, you will feel those delights too and if you haven’t tired of rogue-lite yet this is well worth picking up.
Ship of Fools turns a sea journey into a great roguelike. Trying to survive the attacks of monsters while sailing is a complicated task, as we are always at a disadvantage and we have to run to move cannons, shoot and attack creatures with a paddle — the action is frenetic and part of the fun is being able to handle so much chaos. Co-op multiplayer for two sailors is the focus, but tackling the seas alone is also a great option. The matches have many items and events that invite us to experiment and think strategically. However, the limited variety of content and slow progression of unlocks is a bit of a nuisance. Luckily, the action is fast and the universe is charismatic, which alleviates these problems. In the end, Ship of Fools is a great adventure through the dark oceans, whether alone or in the company of a friend.

Ship of Fools is one of the best sea-themed co-op roguelites that you can play in 2022 that features a ton of content. Tailor your ship according to your playstyle, strategize and beat sea creatures, discover valuable merchants, and seek the best loadout for clearing an entire run.
Ship of Fools is such a great roguelike experience that will keep you hooked for a while. If you can though, set sail along with a friend as the game will be easier and a lot more fun.
Ship of Fools is not built for single-player gamers, but if you’re interested in a fun, frantic experience that’ll keep you occupied for quite some time, then this is the game for you. Just don’t expect some major narrative or anything like that. So, be like one of the fools and be willing to be fool enough to brave the infested waters!
Ship of Fools is a beautiful looking roguelike co-op title that while doable solo, really thrives with a friend.
