There's not much below the surface of Planet Cube: Edge should you find its difficulty infuriating. The intense difficulty feels like a shallow way to extend your playtime but if you're like me, you'll find yourself reluctant to keep trying once you've died in the same spot for the twentieth time.‍

Planet Cube: Edge isn't just another platformer; it's pure delight for genre fans. The simple graphics belie an addictive romp through a challenging world. And don't be fooled by the cute cuboid hero; this is a tough title that will appeal to anyone looking to keep busy for some time.

Planet Cube: Edge is a great-looking 2D precision platformer that is incredibly challenging and rewarding at the same time. Due to its difficulty, a lot of players may be frustrated and defeated when they die almost 200 times in an hour to complete only one stage.

Planet Cube: Edge is a charming but padded experience. Most of the levels overstay their welcome, and this hurts what is generally an enjoyable experience. More certainly feels like less here, as I often found myself sighing as the gimmick of one screen was repeated more than a handful of times. Still, playing as Edge feels great, and as someone who enjoys his fair share of tough 2D platformers, I found the challenge more than met my expectations.

While Planet Cube: Edge is a decent game it lacks a certain “je ne sais quoi”. Its looks will have an appeal for Gameboy fans and its sounds will be nostalgic for many, but some frustrating gameplay quirks mean it ultimately falls short of greatness.

If you can manage not to get too frustrated with the gross bugs, Planet Cube: Edge is a very accurate and satisfying precision platformer. Its eight stages filled with collectibles yield good hours of high-level action, and if that's not enough, completing the campaign unlocks new difficulties.

Planet Edge: Cube is precise and inventive, a masterclass in level design done right in 2D platform. It's also challenging, perhaps too much for an audience that isn't interested in the satisfaction of overcoming obstacles after a successive kill count. The retro pixel art look with minimalist colors is very charming, has good animations and avoids distractions during the action. My hands hurt during the most demanding stretches and I found several bugs, all of them subject to correction, but none of that prevented me from finishing the journey with great pleasure.
